Hey tommy, the ride was great fun, pics HERE.
7.45am: met at Victoria stn. for the 8.17 train to Hove.
Once there we decided not to bother with getting a train to Portslade and rode straight uphill to Devils Dyke. We stopped for some adjustments, tinkering and watched the paragliders take off from the car-park.
From this start point we left the tarmac and rode West along the South Downs Way, the going was easy, the sun was shining, and once again it was really nice to be out of london..
As we approached the furthest point on the loop, Emilie had to bail, so we escorted him back to civilisation and tried to carry on the route. I am quite pleased about getting back on-route, but missed a couple of bridleway turnings and we found ourselves heading towards the sea at Shoreham instead. This looked tempting, as it was hot-hot-hot! and Roberto is a roadie at heart. ;-)
We rode along the coast from Shoreham back to Brighton, stopping at a cafe for a well-earned late lunch.
Brighton was rocking as usual, not as busy as we would have expected given the glorious weather, but plenty of crowds along the seafront...The 4-6 hours stated on the website was excessive, we went at a leisurely-ish pace and took just over 4. Our actual off-roading was reduced from the stated 39miles, but the seafront was too good to pass up!
This beame more of a challenging leisure ride than training, good to get more miles on the MTBs, technical stuff will come up next week a bit more!
