Illustrated; top of Cav's helmet is below highest part of his back/hips. Less watts needed to go moar fast = low CDa = high watts per m2 of frontal area in hippy's chart

His form when he sprints is incredible. Always staggered how low he is compared to all the big guys.

Wtf is a CdA?
Actually, wtf is the W/m2 that's in the chart that I totally ignored that looks as though it might be important?Cabbages daily : Activations
It's a ratio of the number of cabbages divided by the number of activations or rectal gaseous evacutations.

Is it watts / metres squared? How would I even know my metres squared?!
How would you even know your FTP?!
It's estimated using voodoo or a wind tunnel.

None of this makes any sense whatsoever and I regret joining the roadie douchebag club. I would like to cancel my membership and obtain a refund pls.
No refunds. Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.
Seriously, don't worry about all this bullshit. It's just bullshit unless you're a massive geek. Ride your bike.

So because I'm shorter than hippy, I'm loads better than him, in spite of all that bollocks he posted in the weight loss thread about how being bigger is better?
hippy pwnd!Bigger is always better.
But here's an easy to remember list to help you out.
- hippy
- everyone else

It's simple, wear a grid skin suit and count the grid squares. Science.

edit as hippy says, on the flat w/kg means diddly and short fatty fat fats with little legs who can get in a tuck can hurt people's feelings. :)
Had this discussion on my last ride. The guy I ride with leaves me on medium to long climbs. But we're same on the flat, with me a touch faster on short sprints.
His FTP is probably a touch higher than mine, and hes a few kg lighter. But I have shortness in spades.
MOOOOOWAAAHHAHAHAHA!

Surely you just have a frontal photo taken while in the drops.
Blown up to acual size.
Cut it up into triangles.
Then rearranged into a square. -

Some great deals on Kurt Kinetic here.
In other news my Super magneto pro has developed a clicking. Sounded exactly like my speed magnet hitting the sensor. So I fiddled with that for ages before realising it was the trainer. Bugger. Hope its an easy fix.

How important is a turbo tyre? I've got an Ultra Gatorskin on the back at the moment, I suspect if I've got to keep changing wheels it's rare that I'll actually be arsed to use the turbo. I don't mind if it accelerates tyre wear a bit, I'm willing to take that rather than having to swap tyres/wheels each time. Cheers
-
• #613
I've never used one, just used an old tyre. It will wear a bit, but it's more that some tyres slip on the tubro and cause extra noise.
-
• #614
Its mainly a wear issue. The tyre should'nt slip either way. They claim to be quieter, but a total slick is exactly the same in my experiance.
The thing about the wear is thats it produces a flat profile. So even when the tyres not worn out it can ride a bit shitter.
One other thing to consider is that with a turbo specific wheel. You can fit a turbo specific cassette. I have a 14-27 cassette on mine.
-
• #615
Turbo-specific cassette? Does Not Compute.
-
• #616
I just meant a cassette that gives the perfect range for your turbo. Plus a cheap one, to reduce wear on your nice road cassette.
14-27 gives me most of the resistance range I need without shifting the front.

Well if all your training sessions are virtual descents..........
-
• #619
That's my climbing gear. I don't pedal on descents.

Looking to get a turbo for this winter - any suggestions under £150?
It looks like I just missed the 40% off sale at Wiggle, gutted.
-
• #621
No experiance of these. But as a fan of the simplicity of fluid trainers I'd be looking at these two.
-
• #622
Thanks Smallfurry,
Got my eye on that Elite on wiggle. A fluid trainer was what i was hoping to find, if not only for the fact they are meant to be quieter.

After getting much too fat and finally admitting I don't have the time outside work to get proper rides in, I finally borrowed a turbo.
My aim is to do 45-60 mins a day once the kids are in bed.
Tonight was my 1st go.. 45 minutes alternating between - 30 seconds quite fast* and 30 seconds quite slow **
Turbo is just a basic fan model so I can't vary resistance. My plan is to see how I get on for a week or two then invest in a HRM.
I'd like to say I feel invigorated but I actually feel close to death. Am I doing it wrong ?
- at the point where vomit was coming up.
** at the point where vomit was staying down.

It sounds like you're doing it right. But vary your intervals from session to session otherwise you'll also feel close to death from boredom. And do a 5 min warm up before you begin the intervals if you weren't already doing that (it does make it a bit easier on your body)
-
• #625
+1 to mixing up the interval length to make it a bit more interesting.
So this stuff only applies to midgets then?
;-)
