I find the flying gate frame design rather intriguing.
And a bit ugly.

This is taken from the Your Road Bikes page on Bikeradar forum. I'm going to tell them you've posted it here and then watch them get as angry as they do about red light jumping and helmet-wearing.

^^ True saarf stem is somewhat early, but minor sin imho. My Ciocc panto stem is too late, so are the bars. I can't find any 38s from 1979... or panto stems from that era. With so many bikes being ripped apart by sellers it's a holy terror generally to keep everything full period correct.
(I keep looking though...one day!) :)
Agree with the rest though, red tires etc...bleh.
A Flying Gate isn't for me TBH interesting but...too many tubes that go nowhere.

I don't think there's any crime in fitting later items on earlier bikes,
just crime when earlier items are fitted on later bikes -

Cos of being a bit pointless due to advances in technology? :)

no, just my twisted aesthetic logic, would you put wheels from an old 70's 911 on a '90's one ?
To each their own though, the build just looks like it's had brands/design icons (?) put on it just for the sake of having icons on it imo -

^^ I don't mind that mash so much, but what have they done to the double top-tube bike in the background...?
-
• #30090
Painted it red by the looks of it.
-
• #30091
Just looks weird. I only know those from Amsterdam painted black and looking rough like heck...and still going like 80 years didn't happen.

Their's is some of the best in town though, so I won't be point-it-out-boy. -

I think it'd look much nicer if it had been powdercoated. And a shorter stem and lose the ergo bars.
-
• #30098
What brake caliper does it have? Just need to check whether there is a single component on that which I wouldn't throw straight in the bin.

How can you be sure that the chain isn't the one approved by you?
Or the inner tubes? or the lockring?
-

or the train ticket?
Not really, and it (along with all the other bent, offset, dimpled and split seat tubes) was a blind alley caused by attacking the problem (rear triangle isn't stiff enough) in exactly the wrong way.
2, A shorter beam of the same section and material is stiffer
It was, and still is, a poor solution, because it makes uncomfortable and poor handling bikes. The correct solution is to increase the section of the beam, which yields vast increases in stiffness for small amounts of extra material, keeps the pleasant steering and comfort of a longer wheelbase, and allows a slacker seat tube angle for a given amount of tyre clearance, so you don't have to use set back seat posts.
