It's not a freewheel is it? I guess I'm missing something, unless brakeless is anti.

I didn't talk about the aesthetics at all, just said if you say that's functional, then i say for no more than rides that aren't fast/downhill/near traffic.
Do you not agree, or would you say skidding/reversing the motion of the crank is adequate for safe braking in all situations? -

Works for me.

Doing skids in the wet and front wheel going, doing skids in the dry and bike failing (check out draw your own collisions thread for that one..), fixed wheelies going wrong whilst clipped in, quite a number riding under the influence crashing into curbs/fences/walls or just falling off spontaneously..... one bad one where had been waiting for front disc pads to bed in and had been yanking the front brake to speed this up, they suddenly bit and did a somersalt onto my head.. (only time I was wearing a helmet, only time I needed one...) I've been run off the road by a car overtaking too close and by a nodder...
pretty standard?
oh yeah, forgot... had 2 crashes on black ice last month as well, one going up a hill and started sliding backwards back down it, and one coming to a stop, bike just flipped out from under me both times.
Good job I'm so good at falling off, or I might have hurt myself!

make a pair of trainers into cycling shoes and you can still get the awesomeness of clipless on your pub bike.

it look rather suitable for ironman events, why wouldn't it be? other than the fact it's ugly.

Are the wheels really small?
....or just far away compared to the rest of the bike?

That's how they rolled back in the day; standard track frame, forks turned round, 24" front wheel, shift the bar clamp forward as far as possible in your Major Taylor stem*
*another teaser for scorch; the 1948 Rotrax has one of these, plus all the other hot goodies; Chater-Lea cranks, Airlite hubs, Brampton B8 pedals etc.
