  • 'The UMX Mexico Limited Edition will also serve as a celebration of the Belgian’s career, with yellow, pink and multi-colour banding on the seatstays remembering his victories at the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and World Championships, and a “525” number plate reflecting the number of professional victories he took.

The lugged Columbus Cromor steel frame and fork will be kitted out with a custom spec and a 'flip-flop' (reversible so you can run the bike with a fixed gear or singlespeed) rear hub. Only 20 will be available in the UK, with availability slated for spring 2012. RRP will be around £1,100.'

Best get my order in quick then.

  • Whats with the dropouts? Don't understand what they've done there...

    Is the bb adjustable??

  • it better be with those dropouts

  • Brakeless kid's bike? That seems responsible...

Alos I have a feeling that if that Merckx wasn't the hour record bike, people would be hating all over the seat, seatpost, long stem etc etc etc

  • Brakeless kid's bike? That seems responsible...

It's a track bike, guess what it's designed for? That's right riding on the track.

  • Worst thing about the Merckx is that it's one of their productions right, not some sloppy build. It's disgusting, a toy-bike, like the new range of OTP Bianchi Pistas. 'Only 20 will be sold in the UK', it says under the first photo.

    Most probably, yes.

  • ^haha. I knew there would be some haters for that one. In retrospect, the bars/stem definitely have some issues.

  • It's a track bike, guess what it's designed for? That's right riding on the track.

A fair point well if sarcastically made. I would maintain though that It's not the tool it's how you use it. Plenty of fixie skidrz take brakeless track bikes onto the busy urban roads, turning a perfectly legitimate bike in one environment into a bit of a deathwish. I was thinking if a younger rider did the same thing jumping on the fixei bandwagon, it's a potentially even more lethal scenario.

  • What are you maintaining? Your post makes little sense to me. What are you referring to as a 'kid's bike'?

So we should put safety precautions onto everything in case people chose to use them for means not intended for them? Maybe the breaks should be non removable, and the wheels should only be able to go a certain speed in case 8 year olds decide to go really really fast and die a horrible death?

I think I have these wheels.

  • I will concede that I have made a somewhat ill advised point. In light of which I am interested in why people heap scorn on any brakeless fixed wheel bikes, since they are all track bikes and thus technically don't need them.

  • its fine/porn below the toptube

    Depends on there intended use.

Something with risers, 65 GI, and skid resistant tyres probaby is'nt going to see the inside of the velodrome.

That Islabike is specifically designed cater for young aspiring trackies.

I don't think they do always. People pour scorn on people riding brakeless bikes on the street, and bikes that are riden on the street, but this is an OTP, deisgned for track, unlike a 700CMX or something, so it is perfectally legitimate to not have brakes

  • What about helmets?

    should'nt they be compulsery?

    Run away >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Agreed. Forgive my addled brain.

  • Whilst I agree that putting an eight year old on a brakeless fixed wheel in the middle of London is not a good idea, getting them into track riding at such an age is a fantastic one.

It means that instead of becoming a fixie skidder in their mid-twenties with little skill/awareness, they are a pleasure to share the road with.

Maybe that's what you meant anyway...

  • I think it's a brilliant idea to let 8 year olds decide for themselves how they want to spend their spare time. They should be climbing trees and shit, not be forced to ride a track bike because that's what dad happens to like.
