I think it's a brilliant idea to let 8 year olds decide for themselves how they want to spend their spare time. They should be climbing trees and shit, not be forced to ride a track bike because that's what dad happens to like.
Ironic since you appear to know exactly what a kid want, ever considered the possiblities of them not wanting to climb trees?

Who wouldn't want to climb trees? It's fucking bril.

Ever considered the possibility that I used "climb trees" as an example of care free activities of their own choosing? How is it ironic that I know what a kid wants? I was one at some point. If a kid does not want to climb trees, it is a girl, and she can do whatever the fuck she wants.

So a boy that would prefer to ride his bike rather than climb a tree is a girl of a big wuss. What a stereotypically mongish thing to say.

My dad kinda forced me into tennis.
I didn't complain though, it give me some kind of discipline, something to aim for, (like the National Deaf Tennis Championship), even though I wasn't quite keen on tennis, it was great to have some kind of activity, and I realise it made a difference to how I behave at school (academically)
yes I'll agree with the sentiment that kids should choose whatever they want, but at time, sometime the father do know best, and they do it for the kid's best interested at heart.

Yeah I guess I feel strongly about the subject. I still stand by my opinion but I do realise it's not necessarily wrong for any kid to take part in any activity. The important thing is where the motivation comes from. Track cycling isn't particularly something a kid would pick up out of its own, but if it's enjoyed as a father/son quality time activity, more power to them.

I'm going to be riding this on the weekend -
Is it really that bad?
-
• #18692
Hmm maybe. Is there even enough ground clearance to turn the cranks?

Is it really that bad?
The other one. My badboy 'fixie' with blingin' wheels.
^There's just over a gnat's whisker of ground clearance. Would be better with 150/130mm cranks really but I wasn't going to spend £20 on something it didn't really need
