Hmm, the new Gaggia (essentially a La Pavoni Europiccola) is heating up ok but then when I turn the switch off it's tripping RCD on the fuse box and turning off the power to the flat.
I'm reading up on La Pavoni electrical faults but can't find one relating to a trip when the machine is turned off.

Been coffeeing again at work today, got all my milk stuff pretty much spot on, not including fancy pictures or owt. Also got my grinder through and pinched some beans although not sure I can take much more caffeine.

So, only when you power off?
Does it do the same if you throw the switch at the plug socket?

Yep only when I turned the switch off, I didn't try the plug (I wasnt really sure what was happening and I didn't want to trip the power too many times and further piss off my flatmates)
I just tried it in the other half of the house and it's fine so either me poking around / drying out the electrics inside (they weren't visibly wet but I put a fan on them for a bit to make sure) fixed it or the plugs in the kitchen are sketchy. The latter is pretty believable as when all 4 hob rings are on the cooker fuse goes. I'll have to try it in the kitchen tomorrow as my flatmates were fed up of the power going out.

I have just found a moka pot in the cupboard, yes!
Unfortunately it's too small for the grill on my massive industrial gas stove top,
How can I get around this??
Edit : it does work on top of the George foreman, should I try it on the stovetop sitting in an empty pan?

How can I get around this??I use two of these - one for the Moka pot, one for a tiny (Greek?) milk pan.
Any decent cookshop should have them.

Perfect thank you!
Next question...
Can I buy coffee from tapped and packed TCR that's already ground? Or anywhere nearby?
-
• #8059
A good shop would grind it for you, there and then.
So would Starbucks :) -

...electrical problems? I can fix that!
-
• #8064
...as just seen in the 'memes' thread. Did LOL.
Actually, I saw a landlord in spain once 'fixing' the main fuse (?) for the whole house in a very similar fashion.
While we're at it, where he lives there's a lot of "3JP" coffee.
Is this aviable over here, has anyone tried ordering it?
It's Nestle, sadly, IIRC, but it's a really good coffee for strong mokka pots... -

Looks like my gaggia/rcd woes were down to a bit of moisture in the electrics and now it's working great. Picked up some cheapo supermarket beans to practice with and getting ok results. Just waiting for my new madebyknock tamper to arrive and I can really start dialling it in.

Just had some Lupine Coffee. Erm, interesting stuff.
-
• #8071
^ Heh... You drank expensive poo!
-
• #8072
i think lupine is 'fake' coffee (i.e. not coffee beans but something similar) I think you're thinking of kopi luwak which is the animal poo coffee (mass produced now with a horrific record of animal cruelty).
-
• #8073
Yup, a bit like Barley Cup but darker. Still caffeine free. No civet poop involved.

Opps...
My bad. Sorry...
