  • Puly caff and Puly baby from happy donkey and a water filter jug to help prevent it in the first place

thanks dude, will get an order in. is it worth buying one of those special backflushing baskets too?

  • My Classic came with a rubber seal that you put where the basket goes to create a blind basket, if that makes sense. Do you not have one with yours?

hey tom! do you mean the little rubber plug thing? if so, yes

  • Hello mate. Yep, that's the thing. Just take the filter basket out and put the rubber seal in. A teaspoon of detergent and you're good to go.

  • I never got a rubber seal...

    Sad panda. :-(

oh, hang on, i was thinking of the 'frothing jet device', as the operating manual calls it - the little black thing that sits underneath the basket - I presume it's not that?

  • not that. http://www.happydonkey.co.uk/hd0184-gaggia-backflushing-basket.html won't break the bank surely? (tho postage may bump the total up a bit)

No, not that. Maybe they're not included anymore, I did buy mine about five years ago.

  • cool, thanks all.

has anyone been to the brick lane coffee festival thing before? it's some time in april. i'm no industry type, but i thought the chance to drink some ace coffees and learn more about it all may be quite interesting

  • Went to London Coffee Festival last year -hoping to visit again this year. Had some awesome coffee's and good food. Learnt a lot too - Union Roasted had a stand with talks. Sat for near on an hour learning about the roasting process. Think earlybird tickets are £8 this week...would recommend

  • My office is going to buy a new coffee machine

I was going to suggest a Gaggia classic - but is there something better, at around that cost but not to restricted by it...

  • Is it possible to trust an office with a manual espresso machine?

  • they should hire me to keep it running.

  • I just went through a second handle on my porlex mini.
Is it just me or they're simply made of butter?

I don't have money right now to buy a new grinder so i need order another handle (8£) that will melt soon anyway .

  • ^ unlucky? mine hasn't felt like this is happening, but will check later...

  • Surely that would only happen if you're constantly grinding the handle off the shaft? After the first few times mine 'climbed off' I had to accept that a certain degree more care was needed, or reining in the enthusiasm a little.

It would be nice if a little press on cap was available though. If you were intending to leave the handle in place all the time, you could probably improvise with an elastic band wound round the top of the shaft, or a bit of epoxy or something.

  • ^^ I've noticed mine is notching, hadn't realised they might get that bad though :(

  • Would anyone be interested in splitting an order for NotNeutral 6oz cups, and possibly espresso cups too? These are the same as the ridiculously overpriced ones from Rapha, just without their logos painted on. The Rapha ones work out at £22.50 each. Coffee Hit sell them for 7.66 each. If you buy a pack of six they're only £4.50 each. Similar deal for the espresso cups - £20 each from Rapha, 7.30 individually or £5.24 each for a pack of six. No need to pay postage as they're based in Brockley.

I'm after 2 of each - would anyone else be interest in 2 or 4 at that price?

  • This is my Porlex Mini handle. I can't say how many grinds it's done - definitely more than 500, but probably less than 1000. I'd definitely be pissed off if an £8 handle lasted less than a few years though.

  • I recommend one of these...

    Worked for me...

  • You lazy cunt. Why don't you put your back into it? Oh yeah…

  • Mine started to wear when it flew off the shaft, as Scarlett says I just used a bit more care. Did scratch my head though for a workaround, but couldn't think of anything cheap and easy.

  • It's definitely lacking a 'click' when you put it on.

Sometimes I wish I got a Hario Skerton instead,

as I never really take my Porlex anywhere to make use of its compactness.

  • I've heard bad things about the skerton. There's too much wiggle because the crank mechanism isn't stabilised at the top. Means you get a lot of variation. Porlex is much better in this respect.

  • I have a bb30 fitted to my porlex mini, solved any play in the crank arm
