Just checked my bank statements.
I bought the second handle in the first week of november (first one sometime in may).
That's about 200 coffees for me.
I think i need to work on my technique. -

You guys are harsh, the handle and shaft on my Zassenhaus are both brass; 7 years old and still loads of wear left.

Would anyone be interested in splitting an order for NotNeutral 6oz cups, and possibly espresso cups too? These are the same as the ridiculously overpriced ones from Rapha, just without their logos painted on. The Rapha ones work out at £22.50 each. Coffee Hit sell them for 7.66 each. If you buy a pack of six they're only £4.50 each. Similar deal for the espresso cups - £20 each from Rapha, 7.30 individually or £5.24 each for a pack of six. No need to pay postage as they're based in Brockley.
I'm after 2 of each - would anyone else be interest in 2 or 4 at that price?
I already have these and they are really nice but if anyone's thinking of getting some, this is a really good deal (and it might even be cheaper than getting them direct from NotNeutral.)

Just doing some research for a project and OH GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING STAHP!!

I've heard bad things about the skerton. There's too much wiggle because the crank mechanism isn't stabilised at the top. Means you get a lot of variation. Porlex is much better in this respect.
Mine was exactly like this.

got the next bag in from hasbean in the guest espresso subscription (along with a non-personalised valentines card).
http://www.hasbean.co.uk/products/valentines-day-massacre
its a box of chocolates with some champagne effervescence and some amazing floral tones .
sounds interesting but will give it a few days of rest before i crack it open.
asides from the guest espresso though have gone back to red brick as my regular coffee, is nice not having to keep dialling in new coffees other than the occassional notch-down/up on the fine settings on the vario.

^^ mine arrived today too, looks good bag #18.
Not very interesting, but I noticed it's only 18 / 500 bags this time (Jan was advertised as being x / 1000 bags I think?)

On the subject of Porlex's what is everyone's preferred number of clicks back from fully tightened for a fine espresso grind?
-
• #7386
^^i am also one of the subscribers
when i first emailed hasbean last year about doing an espresso subscription Steve did not appear to keen on the idea. he suggested that the inmymug coffees could all be used for an espresso
funnily i preferred the most recent regular subscription coffee to the espresso one

My bad, handle is brass, shaft is steel.

This will surely vary depending on the beans you're using.
Do you weigh in and out? I've never used Porlex for espresso but I imagine there's a recommended starting point (couple of clicks?), then after weighing a few shots you can adjust grind/dose/time to meet the desired output.

Just started a bag of Workshop's Cyiya (V60, 20g/330ml, 3 mins). Nice and juicy after a week of Handsome roasters' Honduras.

My Porlex is still buggered. I think I've mentioned it before on here and the suggestion was to clean it which I've done, thoroughly. Even on the tightest setting I'll get everything from fine sand to tiny pebble sized chunks...it's driving me insane, especially now I've dialed my electric grinder back in for espresso.
Has anyone had this problem? It seems like the burr just isn't staying put in the middle of the cone so it's letting huge chunks of bean through. I'm not convinced buying a new burr set will make any difference.

I saw on another forum someone had "modded" a Porlex, it involved sticking bits of card in the gap between the ring burr and the metal casing, and somehow sticking the inner burr to that thing that clicks inside it, using putty or something. I'll try and find it.... brb

Backflushed my Classic today and noticed a leak from the rear right corner of the machine.... not huge volumes and not affecting brews. Anyone here experienced this with theirs?

Ah I think that could work – thanks for that. Perfect job for a bit of Sugru!

I thought backflushing Classics was a no-no. We've been using ours since Christmas (and still need grinder and waterfilter). I assume I need to descale now? It gets near daily use.
What are the benefits of backflushing? Also can you do it by blocking your filter some how? Without buying a blind basket?
-

^ Classic has 3 way solenoid valve thingy so can be backflushed.
Descale to stop it getting blocked up by limescale from the water, back flush cleans all the accumulated crap out the machine.
You can probably bodge it, but if you click a page or two back in this thread you'll see the link I posted to a blanking basket from Happydonkey for about £4. Hardly worth bodging at that price.

I'm boringly still waiting for my replacement Gaggia Classic to arrive. Fault reported a few days after Christmas. Good job I'm not at home at the moment or I'd be going ape-shit with Philips.
