One of the worst coffees I've ever had the displeasure of drinking was a 'flat white' from the Costa at Doncaster station...I see a pattern emerging, and it's certainly not a rosetta...
Location - Onchan park
Time - last weekend
Crime - ordered flat white, this was placed infront of me
When challenged, the reply was that it was flat as they had used still water.

Yes. Because coffee has traditionally been a sparkling water based beverage. Not £2.40 though was it?

You are having a giraffe... Wow. That trumps my Costa train station story.

I went to Present to get a flat white today, as is becoming a weekend ritual for me these days, and there were two youngsters manning the coffee machine. Drink was substandard :-(
55p flapjack from The Albion was as good as ever though :-)

By the way I wasn't attempting to outdo CYOA or Andy there! It was still pretty good!

Maybe 'sparkling white' will be the next big thing. The champagne of coffee-based drinks, or some shit like that.

Isn't that an actual thing already? I'm sure I read somewhere, probably this thread, about drinks prepared with sparkling water. -

It was free as I refused to pay or drink it

She proudly held aloft the large bottle of peckham springs she had taken the water from.

Heads-up to those based near Smithfield - Dose are now selling a (small) selection of HasBean-roasted beans, as well as brewing with them in the Aeropress.

I'm sat in Reading station right now waiting for a meeting, thought I'd try a 'flat white' as prepared by Costa. It tastes like smoking.
If you want a good coffee in Reading, head round to "Picnic" near the market place, it's a great little independent cafe, with great food, great coffee and nice people. Only place I go for coffee in Reading - fed up with all the big chains
http://www.picnicfoods.co.uk/ is their website.

I guess St.Ali is putting on more pressure than the leather lane shops were up until now so they've had to mix things up a little.
edit: I also rescind my previous reservations about st.ali, I went in yesterday afternoon and service couldn't have been friendlier. although they did tell me off for having a filter coffee "to go" as it came in a paper cup which wasn't conducive to preserving the integrity of their brew.

Nearing the end of my bag of HasBean 'Blake' espresso blend. A strange journey, starting with an overtly muddy cup 2 days post roast (not in a particularly bad way), and ending up with a massive apricot finish suddenly appearing 8 days later. What a fucking mental transformation.

Just started a bag of Square Mile Pomorosso La Estrella which I'm loving. No idea with regards to terminology of flavour, but deep, chocolately and just bloody lovely sums it up for me.

In what way? Did they explain?
IMHO if the container is inert and food-grade then it won't impart taste to the coffee, and in terms of cooling I can't imagine that it would be any different to porcelain, except that it would cool faster (but that is a good thing according to the guy I spoke to at Prufrock; the sweetness developing as the coffee cools).
Maybe they mean the lid, which I always remove from my coffee as it is harder to get the slurpy-bubbly-increasedsurfacearea thing going on when drinking through the spout/

Noticed that the cafe opposite the office sells Aeropresses. Reynolds, 34 Eastcastle Street near Oxford Circus.
I think they were £23.50 although I'm sure someone will pipe up and say you can get them for a tenner around the corner.
cool. i'll have a look on tuesday.
