I'd still recommend saving for a good grinder
How much dollar for a good grinder roughly? I dont mind investing a little if Im going to have it for a few years. Local stores: I imagine so, living in Brighton so the absolute hipster central. I might just buy a small quantity from a local joint and see if I like it

I'd say somewhere around £100 should get you a lifetime of service from a grinder.

To be honest for my moka pot I order Hasbean's 'Red' blend preground. I use the moka a lot (every morning so I don't disturb the neighbours grinding beans and whenever I'm feeling lazy when I get in from work) and so go through it quite fast anyway. My beans are for my Aeropress and I have my grinder at a setting I like for that so I don't really want to mess with it; it's one of the older Harios that you can't adjust without taking it apart first. The Red blend is very forgiving for the moka too.

Do you want manual or electric. I got this one for £80 odd and it serves me well..

Thinking about whether to upgrade my grinder. Have a Krups GVX2 but wondering about whether a Baratza Encore or similar will make a noticeable difference. Any recommendations on home grinders for £150 or less? This is mainly for filter/ pourover - so don't need to grind for espresso.

Wilfa?

haha, very good

I had one of those Krups things (two, actually; they tend to wear out after a few years).
Then got a Baratza, after the 2nd Krups gave up. It's considerably better.

In Napoli shops only have lever machines. Didn't see a single automatic.
Beautiful espresso everywhere.
Makes me want a lever machine for home.

Cool, might take the plunge then. My Krups still works after 4 years despite the button falling off. Might keep it as a spare.

Wilfa svart for sure

Has anybody used those Hario cloth filters?
How is the coffee?
Is it a huge faff to use (wash) ? -

A friend who runs a cafe used to use them to test new beans when it was quiet with a chemex. I remember the taste being good (like a cleaner v60) but i think he stopped due to the cleaning bring a bit more hassle.
-
• #15097
New to me, are they just for chemex or can they be used with v60?
-
• #15098
Apparently there's different versions for V60, woodneck, etc.

• #15099
Cool, i'll investigate. Ta!

Makes me want a lever machine for home.
Just remember those guys have probably been pulling hundreds of shots for years.
The machine does not maketh the macchiato.
I've found that the pre-ground moka stuff from Illy et cetera is too fine (though admittedly haven't tried for over a decade). Do local stores grind for you? Many around here do, in whatever size you wish. I'd still recommend saving for a good grinder, you'd pretty much only have to buy once.
