  • Bold Street Coffee will be open at Santa Maluco from Thursday (February 22),

Ah cheers, my panic google didnt get me that plus boldstreet website was just blank page. Will visit them next time over.

Popped by 92 degrees this afternoon, near the Philharmonic, was a very good brew.

Edit: also visited Filter & Fox on Duke Street, nice Espresso but no beans for brewed coffee!

  • Heard good things about 92 degrees, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in town.

  • Gonna be staying in Bristol for a placement for the next couple of weeks - any good coffee/food/drinking recs? Obviously will pay a visit to @Matisse at FCP, but interested to see what else is out there.

  • A while since i've been, Playground Coffee worth a visit for the novelty.

2 others i'd suggest, RftS & Salt, have both closed now though (due to Landlord issues afaik).

  • It is defo one to check out.

  • For coffee I'd recommend Coffee + Beer, Small Street/Little Victories, Mokoko, Albatross Cafe & Society. There are plenty more good coffee places too.

If you are into beer, Bristol is blessed with some really great breweries. Look out for Arbor, Moor, Bristol Beer Factory, Wiper & True, Left Handed Giant, Dawkins & Good Chemistry. Moor and Bristol Beer Factory have taprooms that are open pretty much everyday, definitely worth checking out. As for pubs, in the centre check out the Robin Hood, Bag O'nails (cash only but seriously worth a visit), The Grainbarge, Three Tuns. Also would recommend North street which is on the South side of the river. Lots of good pubs and eating places along it. Would recommend the Old Bookshop, Old Butchers, Tobacco Factory and the tap room for Bristol beer Factory is also there.

  • Amazing - thanks so much, will go and try as many of these as possible!

  • Say hi when you pop in

  • Popped in today but I think you were away at the comp? The guy serving me was a bit confused when I asked if he was Matisse. Anyway, the coffee was great and the shop is lovely too - I'll be back, especially as I've just been given a job around Brizzle next year.

  • upon @cgg's advice, here is me looking for a replacement for my Gaggia Gran Deluxe. I'm looking for a trustworthy Gaggia Classic or a Sylvia... shoot me a note if you feel like parting with yours.

  • One has just hit coffeeforums.co.uk for £210 with some accessories and mods. It's in Liverpool but he might be able to post it. Worth asking imo it seems in great condition.

  • I visited a friend in Turin this week and brought some coffee from ORSO. A very cool shop doing rather fancy than classic Italian coffee which I kinda like. Had one of the best cappuccinos I ever had there.
The two beans I brought are from Nicaragua and Honduras. I'm excited!

  • So it's slow brew then?

  • Yes. Edit, well slower than espresso anyway.

  • Thanks, new nomenclature to me.

  • Any particular favourite reusable cups? Toying between Kleen Kanteen and Frank Green atm as they seem to be able to put up with getting chucked in a bag after use.

  • I like my keepcups - I have a glass and a plastic one. Obviously you need to be more careful with the glass, but I think they now do a plastic outer thing (longplay?) which would help protect it. No off tastes from the plastic one either, though I prefer the feel of the glass in the hand.

  • Technivormers. How is best to clean the inside of the thermal carafe? I've been using it daily and rinsing between use but thinking it could do with a proper clean. Any tips for scrubbing inside the tight opening? Particular brush brands/styles? Use particular cleaner etc?

  • Also got a glass KeepCup, dropped mine on the floor a few times (after washing it, so no coffee wasted thankfully) with no breakage.

  • I've got 2 plastic KeepCups but I find I use this one more: https://jococups.com/

    The build quality is nicer.

  • I use glass Keepcup at work, plastic for camping.
