  • That is really nice.

I'd kind of settled on black and cream but i'm not sure now. It looks really nice, if my Mercian comes out anywhere near that nice, i'll be laughing.

    Well done that man!

  • dogsballs forgot to thank all the people who helped me with bits, JV, bracestower, JOS, roberto :)

i don't know the brand of the stem and bars, but are plain heavy chrome mofo's off a period track bike. i've got a lovely polished GB hidinium spear pointed stem and bars, but they are road bars :( (skull-head do u still want em?) . the saddle is an english wrights saddle similar to B17 which i have already chopped, might have a look at taking off the loops as well ;)

Just took a snap of the Brooks without the loops. I think the sides have been beaten down a little to round it as well. I chopped the sides though. Unfortunately, it needs a little welding on the saddle rails, so it's out of action at the moment.

Dale... you talking about those GB maes, I was comparing to mine? No thanks I have a pair :p Oh actually how long was that stem?

Looks the dogballs built up mate. How much dorra you wan?

I would though, say only a cnut would sully a classic old english frame with nasty american hubs. ;)

  • i think the black tyres and bar tape look a bit ugly, though

  • Lookin' great Dale, she's scrubbed up pretty sweet! :D
Just spoke to Vaz, should be getting my (repaired and resprayed) Mercian back this Saturday, he's just waitin' on the decals! Woot!
Shame I was too skint to send her back to Derby... Fingers crossed, eh?

  • nimhbus i think the black tyres and bar tape look a bit ugly, though

vintage black cloth bar wrap and NOS black rubber bar ends ;)

    Yeah, white bar tape perhaps?

  • Did you run out of tape? ;)

  • Hi dogsballs,

great to see this bike back in good condition - I'm currently renovating a 1956 Holdsworth Cyclone (the road version without the track ends though) - it's actually up at Mercian getting resprayed right now - I went for gunmetal and canary yellow (original colours) with gold lining. Hope it looks as good as yours...

Did you use the original bottom bracket and headset? I need to get new ones for mine - wondering what you used?

  • dale - this bike is sweet. i said i'd look when i got home from polo and it was worth the wait.

  • hey DB,

nice one! really beautiful, and I like the colour combo, it's perfect for summer. Will you do the same with my your blue one now?

did you know you could order almost any colour way back when ;) . it's a williams chainring and a bayliss-wiley BB, not NOS but hardly used. I'm waiting for a NOS brampton headset (the one in there at the moment is a cheap re-pro). will look better when i build up the vintage wheelset for it ;) . if you are having trouble finding bits, i've found a couple awesome contacts, just whisper me. :) oh yeah, i just bought the frame and forks, then found everything else.

Mine belonged to my Dad - he used to do a lot of road racing and time trialing back in the day and had it built himself. Unfortunately he had a crash and wiped out the front forks, so it has a pair of hetchins forks on instead, but they look ok.

Thanks for the advice on components - if I get stuck I'll get in contact!

    cheers
