  • Hmm, i was thinking around 93/94 indeed! since it has the cableguides for ergo-powerd levers on the headtube.. My Gazelle track is also from the same era (maybe a bit oldere) and has a simmilar number but has the older (prettier) version of the decals. Strange though!

And i've tried to contact Gazelle a couple of times to sort things out but the basterds never reply on my e-mails!

    Thnx anyway!!

And sorry Dicki, i'll speak English from now on ;)

  • The next person who wants to order from Greg Softley should tell him that the decals have a spelling mistake. It should be written "Handmade" not "handmade" on both versions he offers.

Mine also have a back-to-front (R) logo on the downtube. Bless.

In for a Gazelle ride, incidentally. I have a well-used 70s track frame Ill post pics of soon..

  • i was just quoting an ex boss of mine
he and i worked with a french bloke who used to talk to his mates on the phone in french
my boss always said SPEEK EENGLEESH when he heard edoaurd speaking the mother tongue
it is a dutch thread about dutch bikes no harm in a bit of dutch
there is babel fish to translate anyway !

  • Haha, but babel fish isn't always right! I often get very confusing sentences when i use it, good or bad ;)

  • horatio was mentioning a gazelle ride over to dieren last friday night
he managed to get another 2 gazelle riders signed up
so just putting it out there no dates yet even thought about but a nikce ride to harwich and then over to holland this mid / late summer would be perfect
we could of course combine it with an amsterdam ride and get some non gazelle types out there too
tell yer mates tell one tell all and lets have a fun ride over to the home of one of the worlds best bike companies

  • ^ beauty!

    and, Dutch cheese said

"But there are more Gazelles with an irregular serial number."

I second that, would almost say any regularity would be by chance ;) I've seen more Gazelles with non matching drop-outs, braze-ons, lug work, colours, decals than 'straight up normal' ones, I've contacted the factory a couple of times and even they couldn't say for sure on the models I came across.

    look interesting

  • I am putting the finishing touches to my early 90s AA Special and want to replace the seat post binding bolt. A typical Campag one is too short and won't fit into the recess casing, so I just wondered if anyone knew which brand Gazelle used in this period of production. My current bolt is too far gone to be able to be read (though thankfully, the threads are okay), but would still ideally like one in better condition.

    Please see pic:

    Beaut!

  • Another one of Tel's!

AA Special, with 3270395 on the underside of the BB if anyone can interpret and tell me more.

Only ridden her a very short distance so far, and then I took it easy as the tyres were a bit low and it wasn't set up quite right... looking forward to riding her again now I have tweaked her a bit. Either way even taking her easy she ran like a dream...

I would check with 'Gazelle Pages'. I think it will provide you an accurate answer on your one.

Of course we can debate about the looks, but what is not subject of debate is that it is ueberspecial and build for its task - going fast after mopeds on the track. Would it work behind cars?

  • or on the daily commute
is there anyway to get that into a track bike by just changing the forks or is the geometry just totally different to road / track ?
angles look steep but no steeper than some track bikes i've seen ?

would it be drilled ? i also can't make out the rear drops but they look like track drops

  • Just bought my second Gazelle, http://verkopen.marktplaats.nl/photopopup/349317553/1

Got it for E50 (70 posted). Not sure of age or model. AA or AB? Columbus or Reynolds? Also the paint looks slightly dubious to my untrained eye, the red looks very pink.

    hmm....any thoughts anyone?

  • Just sold mine a few days ago.

edit: bit to quick, you learnt that already

Congrats with your new Batavus Professional.

Seriously, that is a Batavus Professional underneath that paint skin.

  • You 100%? What tubing is a Batavus Professional?

If it is still good for E50 I will just ride it.

  • 100% sure. The Professional is a great frame. They came with:

    • Reynolds 531DB or 531P
    • Columbus SL, SP or SLX

The SLX one uses Everest lugs instead of Bocama and it doesn't have the wrap over stays. Normally Batavus didn't build frames in 63cm size with SL tubing. So the options that remain are 531DB, 531P and SP.

  • hmm, thanks for the info. The seller was pretty sure that it's Columbus.

I can't decide whether I should keep it or not, don't like the idea of it not being genuine.

  • Haha, you should've contact me first Snoops ;) When are we going to drink beer btw??

Now, now Rodolfo it's not as if it was still in it's original condition is it and you did get your own puppy to slay in exchange? :) Personally Jeez I think you done a nice job there shame about the seatpost but thats a long story eh. So nice to see the completed project.

Uncle Buck I so wish I kept your Gazelle!

Bensud look forward to seeing your project completed too.

I wonder where my other Gazelles have got to....

  • Haha, you should've contact me first Snoops ;) When are we going to drink beer btw??

ASAP when you're in London so you can come laugh at my fake Gazelle. (Still on the look out for a 63cm road frame)

  • Snoops,

You're frame is alike this one ...but 8cm larger

The Professional was Batavus' Champion Mondial contender, both in the market and in racing. Frame was build at a small series department, alike with Gazelle, and many custom options were possible.

  • looks nice, why on earth would you paint that up as a fake gazelle?
