Ok well it seems I have little choice in the matter. Popped out the axle and went down to the LBS. It seems my hub has sealed bearings and the axle is specific to it, so I no choice but to convert the other wheel. Phooey. At least there should be less of an issue with chainline

I've been meaning to post about this for a while but didn't get around to it, but me and tommy are doing a bivvy ride this weekend. Leave Saturday lunchtime, ride til it's dark, unroll sleeping bags and sleep, get up and ride a bit more, come back to London feeling like we achieved. Anyone who wants to come is welcome to join us. Gonna be about 70km across the two days and we'll both be riding SS.
We thought about the south downs way but 100 miles and 13000 feet of climbing put us off!

Tommy and I have been talking about doing the SDW with Bivvy bags for over a year.
I can't do this week but we should make it happen.I'm also on SS by the way.

I need to get back on the MTB and have just bought a lightweight three person tent.

Tents are for organised people who fear the cold.
I am stupid and unorganised. -

That was what triggered our thinking, but we thought that it might require some training and stuff. Definitely want to do it at some point. Maybe in September?
Think I would put gears on the bike though because walking up hills would get boring at some point around about mile 75!

September could be good if we can fit it in. Looks like I'm not going to be away at the start of September now so it should be easier.
Training is a good idea, considering the last off road route I did was January. Still my legs are in pretty good shape so I think the 100 miles is doable.
Enjoy this weekend dude.

Where are you?
I can do a ride the weekend after, just not the SDW as I won't be in a fit enough state. -
• #643
Ooh, can I come?
-
• #644
If you have something other than that 24" you're building up to ride then I'd say yes.
-
• #645
It's not 24" it's a 24 Bicyles
I also have a Kona King Kikapu from way back, that'll do for rolling round the cuntryside
-
• #646
Ah very different things.
Sorry for the confusion.Old Kona's are awesome. I used to love my cindercone.

How about a sunday training ride to get you lot ready for your 100?
I can't take a whole weekend off or I would want to join you in september, but I can borrow a mtb from Lincoln to ride up and down hills with for a day. -

It doesn't have to be a weekend?
Are'nt axle bolts about 5mm? (assuming your going from 120 to 135)
one each side might be a better bet than loads of washers.
I think the standard chainline for MTBs (outer chainring) is 52mm. So like The Brick says, this might be your biggest obsticle. Although I would'nt say its impossible.
