  • No, I'm not buying anything. I don't ride off road enough to be really bothered about having a decent bike.

  • Very nice DJ. Is that single speed or a hub gear? Can't quite see..

  • The cable down the right seat stay is a clue :-)

  • Oh yeah. Looks wicked anyway.

  • Where did you get the zero from dj ?
It looks ace, I hate you...

  • Looks nice DJ.

Cant wait for the snow (or an expensive tyre purchase) to get out on mine.

  • Or thursday

    This week or next?

  • my new fatbike is 14kg

  • I am going to Carbone Hill / Potters bar for a wedding next weekend. We are camping in the woods.

Any areas with decent riding up there?

You can ride around the Great Woods I think - there's some bomb holes and such. There's some bridalways around too so you could hook up a meaty XC route. Have a look at the Rapha Hell of the North route for inspiration?

  • Thanks for the info Howard. I will look into it.

  • Could someone with more knowledge about MTB's comment upon the recent update to Canyon's range and come up with some predictions for the updates to the Nerve at Interbike? kthnxbai

    erm... two bikes?

I'm just looking for a ride out in the countryside... okay, well, Bath.

  • Surly Krampus looks very tempting for just riding around in the countryside

    not this

  • What's your budget benjam? There are probably some sweet sale deals on 2013 bikes atm

Some people will say you don't 'need' a full sus as a beginner, but if that is what you want, make sure you get a decent one

  • James please bring your fatbike to Swinley some time so I can have a go.

  • Will be there Friday

    around the £800-1000 mark

I am aware of this, and receptive to it having given similar advice on road bikes (you'll get a better quality bike if you go alu over carbon at your budget) but i'm wondering about the comparative strength of a 29in wheel to a 26in vs. the scaling effect for a big guy (6'6'' 95kg).

  • For that money I would buy 2nd hand and build your own dream machine....

Total spend on this is about £6-700... once I've sold my old frame anyway.

    Full SLX
    Hope discs
    Hope/Mavic wheelset
    Fox forks
Thomson stem and post (different stem pitcure though)
    Truvativ bars

At your height a 29r might even be justifiable (:
