To unstick the pistons you can try removing the pads and cleaning the sides of the pistons with a cotton bud and hydraulic fluid (DOT 4 or 5.1 for avid) push them out with the lever, but not so far that air gets in, clean them some more and push them in and out while cleaning. Try using a plastic lever to push them first, but when that fails be very careful with something harder. If they don't need bleeding then this might save the hassle of doing so.

Anyone fancy a big Swinley ride 27/28th?
-
• #4830
Or Epping if that's easier for people, just fancy a nice big group ride + pub

How long does a lap of the blue route at Swinley take for people who can actually ride?
-
• #4834
I've done sub 28 (averaging 187 bpm) which puts me in the top 5% on Strava. I reckon i could lose a minute from that if i had gears and smashed the fireroad sections though. Under 30 minutes is generally considered to be good.

I'm not as rubbish as I thought then, just pottered round in about 40 minutes.

Hah...Youth of today.
I've averaged 186bpm for a 10 when I was more than twice his age, although I used to do pretty much the same a quarter of a century ago. Go figure.

I did the blue loop in 35 minutes the other week, heart rate was 165bpm average.
rightwayup is considerably faster, fitter, slimmer and younger than me

Just downloaded tracklog, 35:16, including being nice to the Sunday drivers.
First time at Swinley with gears (apart from a decade ago), makes it much more pleasant. Now I want a bike that weighs less than 15kg...
-
• #4843
remove the gears and it will be....
-
• #4844
'fraid not, it was over 15kg before I added gears.
-
• #4845
Drillium?

Biggest place to lose weight would be the fork, the Shiver SC is a wonderful thing for all sorts of reasons, but it weighs a metric fuck tonne. But I don't want to lash out a load of cash on another 26" fork when what I really want long term is a 29er.

• #4847
And theres me thinking I want to swap my '03 Bombers to drop the weight from 11kg
-
• #4848
my new fatbike is 14kg
-
• #4849
Of course, if I lost 15kg of lard, my bike would effectively weigh nothing without having to buy anything
-

tester, are you buying a niner?
^^ that. Also, my hands are nowhere near strong enough to create that much force. I had tried just pushing it out with the lever, the other problem is that once you have one piston out you then have another piston still stuck and fluid all over the caliper.
Better to create an air gun and cover the caliper with a towel as I did for the other 3 pistons.
