Wimbledon Common's nice but a bit small ultimately, the no cycling aspect is a bit confusing at time when you end up accidentally cycling on the no-cycling part.
wimbledon common is to mountainbiking like what emmerdale farm is to quality tv drama.

thats one way of putting it,
dont forget though,
some people regard emmerdale as high quality,
...you can fill in the blanks.... -

We have some bloke with a full carbon Rocky Mountain hardtail that must've cost £4,000 (with carbon crank and the like), and always tend to go to Wimbledon Common for some 'proper off roading' as he like to put it.
he also said he hated going up Wimbledon Hill just to get to the common.
He sound like your sort MrSmyth.

Just recently I read a interesting exchange between someone at southwark cyclists about those no cycling signs - essentially they wimbledon common "rangers" were trying to deny that there are bridleways on wimbledon common - those signs are nonsense anyway, they couldn't take anyone to court for cycling anywhere on the common.
I will post the link when I find it, it's interesting reading.

Found the climbs early on hard to keep riding as there was so many people on them but apart from thought it was really good. Reckon I could take a fair bit of time off that was going round with a mate who was really struggling by the end so was waiting for him a lot.

• #2020
Remind me to never ride with you. Your mate sounds alright though.

Good reading, thank for that, it starting to make a little sense now.

No probs, it really confused me before too, i've only ever seen a ranger on horse back once before so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Probably even rarer in the winter to see one due to the cold etc - some dog walkers and people in general do put logs down on the bits you are officially allowed to cycle on! i found a dangerous one asmorning - very disturbing - I'm forever moving them.
if you do ride off road, and like a challenge, try one of these events, (or at least click the vid for a watch)
theres one at the Swinley which you lot seem to like, Im organising another one too march/ april which will appear in due course
