My New Years resolutions were
- To accept the fact I am a (semi) alcoholic and embrace it without worrying too much about it or trying to give up.
- Stop eating so much chocolate
- Take up swimming again
I have succeeded at the first one, failed miserably on the second and am really hoping to give the third a shot

There's no such thing as a semi-alcoholic. Discuss.
^ But well done for your successes so far!

There is, someone who's dependent on half-bottles of vodka/wine

Or buck's fizz?

I don't really like to give labels to myself but I do like a beer and a glass of wine but not quite Oliver Reed style :)
I guess a semi-alcholic is someone who could easily become a complete pisshead if they had less self-control due to their fondness for alcohol. But who manages to restrain for whatever reason

Or bloody Mary's?

My success was going out and getting wasted last night. Not really deserving of praise. But thanks anyway :)

Ha! My, the old work place has livened up. :)
I don't think you are an alcoholic Mike. However, I know alcoholics who I would never describe as pissheads. It can be a lot more subtle than that. I don't want to get all heavy 'n' shit and you probably already know it, but since I am currently in rehab myself...
Loads of people enjoy a drink or two per day. People 'use' it for all manner of socially acceptable reasons. We all know this.
When diagnosing an alcoholic (or any addict) some of the questions you might ask are: does it feel like a need or a want, can you resist a drink, or stop when you've had the first one, do you drink alone, in secret, at bizarre times of day, do you drink to deliberately escape yourself/your life or to lift/alter your mood, how does it affect your relationships, work, finances?

Phew, no to all those excluding the stop after the first one, if the question was stop after two, then the answer is definitely no.

^ Hmmm, it isn't easy when the nation's drug of choice is legal and so entwined with our social/family/religious/work lives.
^^ I slightly regret posting that.*

do you drink alone?
:-(
-
• #265
^ Sometimes one of the cats steals a bit of beer. So not completely alone.
-
• #266
Pssh, why do things by halves?
-
• #267
It'll cost more and make your hands look massive.
-
• #268
It's not 'alone' if you're on the internet right?
-
• #269
It's not alone if you have two different drinks on the go.

Double parking is never cool though

Do you mean drink or sex?

That's a demi-alcoholic
I don't think he will, somehow.
