  • Ahhh, the chrome forks. I am still on the lookout for a suitable pair.

As for the black socks, look no further.

  • I might have some forks that are suitable, but need to fit new ones first.

I'm disappointed in Bradley, he clearly has a sense of style, being a bit of a mod, but there really is no excuse for black socks when riding a road bike.

  • i'm a bit confused about the black socks thing. i purchased a job lot of peal izumi socks in black last year which are fine with black spd's and black rapha shorts when riding in town, however i have a pair of silver and white disco slippers and an Italian road bike, should i be wearing white socks?

  • Yes.

  • Thanks Andy!

I already have a fork in this style, but it's a later frame.

    Needs to look like this.

I don't know this for definite though, as I have only ever seen one other Olmo in my style, that was on eBay a few years back (albeit it in purple) and there was no close up pic.

Surely they should have worn Argyle socks?

  • pretty neat, but at the risk of sounding uncharitable, it's a big fee (£50) for a little ride (20km), albeit in a good cause and on a splendid closed circuit

It is for charity though, so I suppose rather than asking for a certain pledge, the registration fee is perhaps a bit bigger to form a donation of some form. The other aspect is unlike Freewheel you'll get all the ToB paraphanalia around you (barriers, gantry etc) and all the goodies from official suppliers (Soreen :D ) etc.

Definitely is a leisure ride for the whole family to take part in, rather than a set a time around the circuit for the pros to beat ride.

  • I agree totally in theory, and would love to take the whole family but 4x£50 is not (alas) something we'd be able to stretch at the best of times, let alone when we're deep into credit crunch belt-tightening...

for people who have the cash I imagine it will be quite a splendid day out, as you say. and free Soreen is not to be sniffed at!

  • fuck the marmotte this is the shizz... :o

    ouch...

    more pain...

  • Over 10 days? Fucking easy..
I gets bettererr and berttetrererererererererrrr as the days go by..

Black socks let me do it.

  • Not exactly a sportive .... but this is quite fun to ride. Had a great time last year and spoke to some genuinely nice people.

  • Me, Pifko and Arducius I believe are taking part.

  • I am considering it.Although the first train from London on 30st is at 08.00 which means you would need to stay there overnight.

  • I'm signed up though only to do the 70km as we have a work team entered. Should be fun.

  • ^

if anyone is going to do the action 100 ... PM me and hopefully we will be able to link up.

  • anyone planning on doing this?

I expect some of you have done it before, lots of lumpy bits I gather including Ditchling Beacon.

  • i would have been tempted but it clashes with the track day :(

i need something to look forward to (apart from the track day obviously - just if teens is reading...which tbh is unlikely...)

45,000m of climbing... so what do we do with the spare time?

The Legs of Steel ride on the 26th of September, then The Ride of the Falling Leaves on October 4th. Two good events, both local to London.

errrr....drink, smoke and seek out loose women?

Cheers andy, I cannot make 26th as I am on holiday, but looking to Falling Leaves, fo sho!

  • The RotFL was meant to open for entries this week but the Dulwich Paragon seemed to have forgotten to renew their webhosting arrangements;

  • Brilliant. That would be a nice end to my first cyclosportive season.

I'll probably be doing this. It doesn't go over Ditchling though as it's run over the western end of the downs. 2000m of height gain doesn't sound huge compared to some sportives, but I know the area quite well and it's all short steep climbs and not much flat for any distance.

  • i bow to your experience on this one, but very confused by their home page description (duh... why refer to DB if it's not actually on the route?):

"In cycling terms, the South Downs are famous for the epic 100 mile South Downs Way off road ride along its length, while on the road, the best known feature is probably the Ditchling Beacon hill climb on the London to Brighton"
