Just entered the Burgess Hill Rumble on 30.08.09.

95 very unpleasant miles through hilly Sussex and Kent.

Regretting it already.

I think Scarlett did that one last year, takes in Yorks Hill IIRC.

Talking of Yorks Hill, it's only just over 2 months away. Looking forward to it already.

Sam, Scarlett did do it last year. I drove him down and the poor sod had to wait for two hours after he finished for me to complete the course. It was very tough. But challenges are important. Hopefully I will be better this year.

And people reckon I have too much time on my hands..

I just do it in Word--excellent keyboard shortcuts for accented characters. Try Ctrl plus the character that looks like the diacritic, e.g. a comma for the cedille, then press the character. In the above case, Ctrl+' and then 'e'. Or use the reverse apostrophe for an accent grave. ^ for accent circonflexe, etc.

I'm still thinking of doing the Evans ride in Gt Missenden as per earlier post, but was wondering if there are any other events/group rides going on, pref in Greater London area.

During a pint and chat with J man and hill climbing assassin TimSmoker we mulled over the idea of a more challenging forum ride.
You can't beat a change of scenery, bigger climbs, faster roads, cleaner air, more badgers and a new pub or two.

The plan was head out on the friday for a ride Saturday, relax in the evening, a ride sunday and off home.
Bulk trains and cheap accommodation and we are like pigs in shit, which is a fallacy as they are one of the tidiest of domestic farm animals.

So from your area knowledge and experience what areas and routes would you recommend?

e.g. on of my favourite places to ride is back down west. I'd stay in Minehead and hit

There's one for Stage 8 in London too. Gives you the chance to ride two laps of the circuit as part of a giant cycling festival, and all for a good cause :)

pretty neat, but at the risk of sounding uncharitable, it's a big fee (£50) for a little ride (20km), albeit in a good cause and on a splendid closed circuit

they seem to be discouraging speed merchants, however, so I reckon it might end up being an expensive version of Freewheel (or whatever they call that thing now), which takes place the next day strangely enough.

Its London based so they can get away with it, if they get half the carbon dripped embankment peloton there it will pay off.
Still a closed circuit with a mix of inexperienced and experienced riders sounds… Um dangerous! it's best they put off anyone who wants to really put the hammer down

from what i have seen there are only organised rides for stage 5 & 8 of the tour of England

I did this last year. You get all sorts out and about, from families to roadies using it as a training ride. With no traffic and ultra smooth tarmac it is great fun. And raises money for charity too!

Can't remember how many laps I did, around 30 I think.

(ignore the gut, fat arse, and compact chainset)
