45,000m of climbing... so what do we do with the spare time?
When I rode Tour of Wessex I ended up having dinner with the 10 riders of Cent Cols. Really nice people... bonkers of course, but nice. One of the guys came in second over three days on ToW... Which was quite impressive.

I also rode the Tour of Wessex. My performance was not impressive and neither was the dinner we had on the first night, although the second night was better.

I didn't ride the Tour of Wessex and I was very impressed with my drinking and lazing around performance for the duration of the event.

ToW was really cool. Amusingly the first day I bonked so bad... a mile from the finish i had to sit down for 25minutes to eat and drink or i was going pass out or get run over. Second day was better, third was OK. I didn't get a good time but I was pleased that I got just under 20hrs for 320miles.

Are you doing the Autumn Epic, Hippy?

@andyp - Can ya give us a head's up when the "Leaves" ride opens up so to speak.
Would v.much like to give it a go...Will do. Hopefully anyone else who spots it is open will notify us here too.
Got to break 4 hours this year, so will be looking for people to make up a fast group. Illy is already in (although he might not know it yet).

Not this year. I've done my dash with events and travel. I want to buy a house too so money will be tight (if any fucker ever bothers to show up for a viewing).

Hippy grows roots and becomes native. Give him a year or two and he'll be spending his time on parenting forums.

I am considering it.Although the first train from London on 30st is at 08.00 which means you would need to stay there overnight.
FAQ only says registration starts at 6... you don't need to be there then. You only need to make sure you finish at 7.

nice one daccordi - I think I'll do the same, looks like there will be a few forum-mongers doing this.
out of interest, did you end up joining a cycling club?
I'm on the verge of doing so, probably the Rolla gang... would be nice to sign up for future rides as a club member

Yup joined Dulwich Paragon, its been brilliant theres loads of rides to go on and everyones really friendly. I can't recomend it enough. Having regular rides going on makes it so much easier to get out as you don't have to think about where your going and its good to be with other people. I mainly go on the mid week chain gangs and the early Saturday ride that is aimed at sportivers. If you stay south I'd recomend you come along for a few rides to see what you think

A while back (9 June), I asked about a 5 day trip across the Pyrenees (St Jean Pied de Port to Limoux, via the Aubisque, Tourmalet, Aspet, Peyresourde, Pailheres, etc). Well, I made it - despite getting lost in Spain (thanks to Chris in the bar doing the GR11 and fellow forumenger Wooderson+ for getting me out of that hole) and at a pretty slow pace.
But I don't think I would have without some of the advice from this forum - particularly Andyp and MrSmyth on time-trial pace rolling training, and on the pacing of the climb. And Hippy's mantra 'they're just bumps' was handy to knock around one's head about an hour into a climb. Thanks everyone.
Two final thoughts: (1) everyone should ride at least once in the Pyrenees, and (2) it seemed that once you got to the top of a col, there is always some kid on a mountain bike doing wheelies and assorted trix. I didn't think I'd be shouting 'do a skid' as much as I did.
