re: stolmen
@Balki: i've been using this as a waredrobe and more recently as a bike rack - there are holes to secure with screws (as I initially did) but nowadays I don't screw into the ceiling. rubber pads either end and an extension bolt at the bottom to get the correct pressure. I have moved a few times and for the last few years have never had an issue without screwing it in.
also - rather than leather or foam to cover the hook, I just cut a section of old inner tube and used that to protect bikes.
and one last little part of advice - been using it as a bike rack for 6mths or so, but just have one hook per bike - centred on the top tube. no problem thus far...
however I think i have heard someone say that you shouldn't fully support your bike from the centre of the top tube - it not being the strongest section. any advice? -

has anyone tried using the stolmen rack with only one centered hook to support the bike by the head tube or the front wheel?

I think the bike would be able to swing around a bit too much for my liking, two hooks seem to work quite nicely:
You don't have to screw these in- if you crank the bolt at the bottom out until it's in toight it will be fine:

unfortunately i only have a wall which is about 80cms wide and i need to fit two adult bikes and one kids bike so two hooks won't work for me as the bikes won't fit horizontally. would suspending them by the front wheels a good or bad idea? -

I want to get a good bike wall mount to hang my bike as I am runnning out of space on the floor and for all I care, I really don't care about a few holes on the wall... Any good ones you recommend??
Thanks

This is the reason I wanted one.
I don't live in a Victorian slum to fit a gas pipe :-P -

Why don't you get that telescopic stand from SJS (around £100). Every now and then they pop in o eBay for half of the price.

I don't live in a Victorian slum to fit a gas pipe :-Pthey're just so ugly and cheap-looking when they are, in fact actually relatively expensive. Not for me.

I don't know. In real life they look quite well made and ingenious. Simple solution.

this thing?
i like the look of the piping better

Do the piping thing and paint it the same colour as the wall for lady-pleasing discreetness.
BTW - I am very impressed by the bike perched on the chest of drawers up there ^^.

Get one of those German ones, I got one and they're
I have a similar one (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Topeak_Dual_Touch_Bike_Stand/5360006679/) and they just use rubber pads at the top and bottom with telescopic bits.
