Yeah? That'd be very useful and very generous of your kind self. I could banish, I mean, move the GT and perhaps the Raleigh out?
But when you say 'secure'.. how secure? :)
I still reckon I should get a nicer option for the Spesh, rather than just leaning it against another bike.

there not cheap but they are brilliant. I got a tiny flat and they work for me.

one locked gate into garden, locked steel bike cage, lock bikes to floor mounted rack //it's pretty secure//
agree with you bout the spesh tho - you picked it up yet?

It's too wet. :( Was waiting for my 'bonus' to clear anyway. Need to get in there next Thurs coz I'll be riding all weekend.
Sounds secure. Mal won't let me get rid of her bike or the Raleigh, doh! :) The GT really would like a new home though. Raleigh under the bed.. Soma where Raleigh was, Ribble under Twatster.. yep coming together nicely :)

I don't really get these. You mount them high up and the bike's tyre rest against the wall? Hmmm must paint my hallway black sometime ... Gad they're ugly things to aren't they? I mean, bikes are beautiful things. Not those eyesores though. I might have to look into the wierd laundry-ish hoiker-upper that hangs em, like what Ian Curtis hung himself with... hmmm I'm already having a blue monday as it goes

Hey all...
Some time ago, someone posted a storage solution based around a telescopic pole which extended from floor to cieling. From memory it wasn't a specifically a bike hanger and came from Ikea or something.
Anyone remember this? I've had a look and come up with doughnuts.

Ah! Nice one Tommy. Thank you.

Nice idea, but looking at the prices online the pole needed costs £67! before you even buy the clamps and hooks, Edinburgh Bikes have this similar design for £88 all in maybe worth a look?

I have the Minoura Bike Tower and I'm very happy with it:

No idea if it's better/worse than the others, though.

Right so i have two busybody neighbours who i share the downstairs hallway of my house with.
Neither of them have to commute (one works form home and one is usually away in scotland)But they both whinge constantly about my skinny bike "making the hallway look messy" and being a "fire hazard"
Yeah right. If you're five feet wide.Came home today to find this note under my doorway suggesting we club together to buy one of these:
http://www.trimetals.co.uk/bicycle-storage.php?m=4&g=9
My major problem is the bike mag reviews saying how wonderful they are - so i can't say flat out - "they're no good".
Personally i'm fine with leaving them in the hallway...
If you have the space INSIDE your place, I built something for my home which works beautifully and looks REALLY nice when done. It took about two hours when all was said and done, and cost about twenty bucks: (see attchment)
It's built from regular pipe fittings that thread together. Any hardware store has them... and can cut and thread them for you.
If anyone is interested in detailed plans (like the exact lengths of the pipe - it saves some trial and error) tell me. I'd be glad to measure them tonight and post it up. You'd only have to lengthen or shorten the top pipe to adjust for your ceiling height.
laters.

Hey, could you post the details. How are your bikes attached to the main pole?
-
• #120
they just hang by the seat. the main pole is interrupted by two T joints, which then allow about a foot of pipe to be attached perpendicularly from which the bikes hang by their saddles. Very simple. Perfectly reliable. I will gladly take pics when i get home today.

Bike hooks for the win:

I use wheel hooks and a top tube hanger - both a tenner from Evans.

http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/2008/02/stolmen-bike-rack.html
I'd like to thank you for posting this as I finally got round to putting mine together this evening.
I already had these 'stolmen' poles from when I fitted them in my old place so outlay was only £6 on a bit of steel and a £8 for the hooks. I lined the hooks with some thick leather as I couldn't find any foam but it works all the same and serves to grip the top tube, handy on the MTB with the sloping geo. I may offset the hooks at a later date but for now it works and I'm happy the bikes are no longer taking up floor space!

OK, Internet use FAIL. From the Ikea website, Stolmen post £19.57

Hi Oliver,
Does this mount just via the extension of the telescopic poles or do you need to use screws?
The Ikea/Stolman one needs to be screw mounted.
T.
hipster - do you just need somewhere to safely store bikes that are infrequently used?
got the secure bike cage at my place which has space for a few which you can use
