  • I just signed up to this website to vent.

it's a shame I only read the this first page on my way to Edwardes.

I broke my wrist recently in a bike accident, so though I go treat myself to a new 661 wrist wrap on Saturday.

Edwardes being the only dealer for 661 around clapham, I thought I make a trip.

    What an experience..

Went in stood there at the counter for about 3 mins, people running around, completely ignored by F*cking old guy. I asked where the wrist wraps were, "pointed" me to the direction..

It was piled on the rack, un-organized so started pulling things around to look for the wrist wrap.

finally found one at £16.95 about a few quid more expensive than the internet, so no biggy.

Went back to the counter with my debit card in hand. Waited about 5 mins completely ignored again by F*cking old guy. young chap finally ask "do you want to pay?" I though it was pretty obvious.

paid, did not ask for a discount, did not get a thank you or anything either,

Ask whether they had any 4x frames, F*cking old guy responded. "call back on monday!"

RUDEST BIKE SHOP, F*CKING OLD GUY! POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, FIRST TIME AND LAST TIME, I AM NEVER GOING BACK.

later found out that my wrist wrap I got from them is about 2 years old too!

  • Thanks for your imput, maybe email them?

Some IBD's (even Brick Lane Bikes) respond well to emails from customers who feel hard done by.

  • what I don't understand from your post is why you didn't just order it off the internet?

Yes, they can be cranky in Edwardes, but I can warrant you (as you found) if you're narky at them they will be even more so right back at you. I like that in this era of grovelling 'the customer is always right' bullshit.

    narky?

I was extremely polite I did not even push them to hurry up. I was not in a rush.

Yes I could of ordered off the internet but I felt that I wanted one on Saturday.. and did not want to wait to order one online.

Thanks but I don't think they have email.

  • Obviously you were/are narked, judging by your rant!

I know exactly how they are in there and your frustration is making me giggle just a little bit. Sorry!

    Fuck off you tit.

You went into one of the busiest bike shops in South London on the busiest day of the week when it's sunny as fuck outside and you waited ALL of 3 mins?! Shit the bed...........
Even I've had to wait 5+mins, bid deal....if they're busy, wait you rude cunt!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  • Obviously you were/are narked, judging by your rant!

I know exactly how they are in there and your frustration is making me giggle just a little bit. Sorry!

no probs, I only felt hard done by after I found the item is two years old!

usually I don't like waiting, but hey it was a nice day.

some day you may feel the same too.

  • usually I don't like waiting.

    And there we have it....

Impatient twat. Do you get the hump in the queue at Tesco's too or do you push to the front and expect to get served as you 'usually don't like waiting'??

  • Pistinator, Go fuck yourself.

I was standing there when the old guy was doing jack.

  • Pistinator, Go fuck yourself.

I was standing there when the old guy was doing jack.

Lying cunt. I've been in there on Saturday afternoons for years and they're always manic - MOST normal, civil people wait to get served

Now you go and fuck yourself you melt!

joining a bike forum to slag a bikeshop = bad form

    The doors that way>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Watch your fingers on the way out

  • usually in a bike shop, if someone is busy they will tell you they will be with you in a moment..

    and not ignore you.

You are a fucking pointless do you work for them?

  • I am on my way out. just want to let other people know my experience at Edwardes.

Good luck to the people who goes there.

I am lying. haha fucking idiot!

  • usually in a bike shop, if someone is busy they will tell you they will be with you in a moment..

Or if you have been using them for a while you gain mutual respect and when they are busy they let you behind the counter to have a mooch yourself then when they're free they assist you.
And YES this does mean waiting more than 5mins sometimes if you've got 4 sets of Mums & Dad's buying bikes for their kid(s) or some nodder has a flat tyre that needs pumping or someone is buying a new Alu racing bike or someone's chain has snapped and needs replacing or some tit needs a strap for their poorly broken wrist....

    You get my drift??!

  • I am on my way out. just want to let other people know my experience at Edwardes.

Good luck to the people who goes there.

I am lying. haha fucking idiot!

Be careful on those roads mate..........

  • i can not believe the number of idiots who go to bike shops on saturday afternoons, when they are clearly at their busiest, and are surprised that it can take a minute or two to get served

    UTFB

  • early Saturday morning to be exact.

don't know where the afternoon bit came from..

  • what I don't understand from your post is why you didn't just order it off the internet?

    To be fair, they are.

  • I was standing there when the old guy was doing jack.

He was probably wondering why some weirdo was standing there in silence holding a wrist strap. Say hello maybe?

They did all tell me that there's no such thing as a seatpost bolt shorter than 24mm though (after going out of their way to find stockist catalogues / ask other staff etc) So I went to BLB and had a choice of two brands in 19mm. Is there a certain person at Edwardes who knows more about track/fg/ss stuff?

I don't think I've ever found bike shop staff to be difficult. I think certain people attract it.

  • Customers should be revered, even if half of them are arseholes. It's just the nature of retail, and it's no different whether you're Topshop or some sweaty garage, treat them badly and they'll spend their dosh elsewhere, and rightly so.

  • Is this ANOTHER melt who's signed up here to slag of a lbs?

Maybe start a faceache group with that other tit who had a bad experience in BLB matey.

Thanks for your input, we'll bear it in mind.

Had the Edwardes conversation yesterday actually. I really like the 'f*cking' old guy actually, was really helpful and chatty and did a good service on my road bike.

  • If you take business for granted and don't appreciate, or at least recognise your customers, then you don't deserve them.

  • ......if you're narky at them they will be even more so right back at you....

How's does waiting quietly to be served be classified as being "narky"? I really disagree with you on this. Sorry.

Obviously you were/are narked, judging by your rant!..

Being upset by an experience after its happened, is not the same as when the experience is happening. He was patient then, but upset afterwards.
I don't understand your math here at all.

Customers should be revered, even if half of them are arseholes. It's just the nature of retail, and it's no different whether you're Topshop or some sweaty garage, treat them badly and they'll spend their dosh elsewhere, and rightly so.

Money DOES come from the customers, so this idea above makes sense to me. Not sure about the revered part, because when I briefly worked in shop retail, I grew to dislike certain types of customers. But if customers have bad expereinces then they will not come back, and others will be affected by their views.

I have "bigged up" Edwardes repeatedly, and even suggested them to another (newbie) forumenger just yesterday. But they are unfortunately getting some negative feedback along the way. I hope someone lets them know, so they can at least take it on board. I still think that they offer a lot. But they could listen to some minority customers as well. It can't hurt them.

  • I worked in HMV on Oxford St for three years and practically all my customers were ass-clowns. The only good ones were the ones that shopped late in the week; they had big wallets and few words.

  • G:
be careful. it might be purple aki.
