Hey guys. This sounds wicked and I'm very keen but...
How long will the ride will take? 80kms seems a really long way, but I've also got no idea how far I ride each day. It's about 35mins to and from work for me, so if this is going to be a 5 hour ride, I think it may be too much.
And will the normal Sunday social ride be going ahead? It seems a lot of the social ride crew will be doing this Brighton ride.

andyf - don't worry, i'm sure you'd make it. i ride 10 minutes into work each day! if you've been riding for a while, i'm sure you're fit enough and we'll go at the pace of the slowest (well, there's always some bright spark who sprints off ahead, but then will wait and let the others play catch up). for me, also, this is going to be the longest ride i've done in quite a while (er, about 15 or 20 years!) so i'm certainly not racing to brighton. also, if you think of it slightly differently, in miles, 50 miles in 5 hours is 10 miles an hour - not a challenging pace at all, i don't think. factor in a few breaks etc and my guess is we won't be arriving before 3pm, probably later than that.
as for the normal sunday social - i really haven't a clue, but i'm pretty sure i'll be missing it ;-) -

Don't worry riding to Brighton is not that far, the pace will be easy if you ride regularly even if it is not that far it will not be a problem. I did the Dunwhcih (200 km + ride to London fields about 20 km) with no training other than my commuting.
I do however have the body of adonis.

Never ridden to Brighton does anyone know how Ditchen compares to Vanbrugh Hill, Greenwhich., I expect it is longer but how much steeper, Vanbrugh hill gets prity steep?. I have never done Highgate hill or any of the others you compare it to.

Route cheat-sheet now done in case of navigational fcuk-ups. I'll bring some along.
Piss easy though, there's only about 6 turns to remember the whole way. -
• #220
nice one brett, and glad you have sorted bike for the ride - you using your condor?
-
• #221
seriously thinking about doin this now. what are the chances of train staff not letting us on the trains when they see 20+ cyclists turn up to buy tix.
what time you lookin at gettin back jonny? hillclimb took us about 3hrs and thats about half this distance. plus loads of people doin this as their first first long ride... plus depart time is a bit late at after 9. my guess is @ brighton around 4ish? bit late for fish and chups...

fbr, it will take us a while to get down there for sure, particularly as a large mixed group. but it really is quite an easy ride with the exception of a couple of hills. hard to call our ETA in brighton. for me, it's not a problem. if the ride takes longer than i would like i will just get straight back on the train. if we are earlier i will have time for chilling with a guinness and some nosh. i suspect that we will not all be aiming for the same trains so expect smaller groups to hit the station as and when.
do it des. be good to have you out there

cheers ben, i am assuming that included stops/messing about, etc. so, with a departure time of 9 we are looking at 3.
Oh, and we are faster than the People's Front of Judea
I can fall on the floor with the best of them
But yes. Let's pay our respects.
There might even be a village en route with a war memorial we can stop at?
Anyone know how you'd find out such a thing?
