am up to 80% on this one. will mostly likely be in lycra tho so I can put the hammer down (ain't carrying anything up ditchling beacon that i don't have to). oh, and will meet you at the top of brixton hill where it crosses the south circular. assuming you guys will be there about 0940

If we're earlier than that, we'll wait there for ya!

BringMeMyFix @jonny - what gear are you riding in? If you're putting the hammer down in 48x16 or something, I'm going to be spinning my tits off all day. Would be good prep for Rollapaluza I s'pose :S
BMMF - nah, don't worry mate, 48*18. don't reckon i could push the 16 like some on ere. looking fwd to seeing you spin that 46*18 on the descent into brighton - that's if you wait for us at the top of Ditchling!
Brett, cheers dude. i live 5 mins from there so doesn't make sense to get down to HPC really.

We should grab a pub lunch by the sea when we arrive. Roast Beef / pork/ lamb / chicken / air, depending on your taste, religious and moral standing.

i know a place in kemptown does a great sunday dinner for a decent price if we manage to get there before it sells out!

That'll be 'air' for me then, seeing as I'm a veggie.

Wow, I think I am going in 48 x 16, the gear I did Dunwich on.
How steep is this Bitchling Deacon? ( I usually go over Saddlescombe Road)Food-wise leaning towards fish and chips, seaside right?
-

Sod fish n chips - sunday roasts in brighton are great!
Ditching = bitchling. Having cleats will help, but I'd swap that 16 for an 18/19.I was really considering coming on this, until my folks rang up saying they are gonna be in London on sunday so I've gotta see them instead :-(

I'd lean towards chips too, plus a gherkin or something (to remind of where I've just ridden from!).
I've struggled up Ditchling in 38x14 (26" wheels), 46x18 (700c), and on a heavy geared bike in the depths of winter in 42x21/23. You should make it in 48x16, but it'll take a while ;)

it ain't steeper than Swains Lane but just goes on a lot longer. you will do it on 48 x 16, but i will be glad of an 18 sprocket.
oh, and i might be in the fish n chips party. unless billys in montpellier road are still serving their legendary all day breakfasts

I'm running 48:16 as well. What's the consenus of opinion?
a: Nothing to worry about, you'll be fine
b: Hmm, you might struggle a little
c: For god's sake, change it out! Your legs will fall off half way up Bitchling! -
• #118
If you cant spin up the hill you can always hop up the rest trails rider style.
-
• #119
Steep like the first three quarters of Swains lane(which is OK) or STEEP like the last quarter?
Apparently it is the third highest point in the South Downs, must bring the camera.Pub lunches can be got at any place, good fish and chips comes from seaside towns.
-
• #120
Ahhhh, gotta disagree with you there - good fish and chips come from UP NORTH! But I'm sure you'll all enjoy what ever the menu. Any idea what time you lot plan to get back to london?

a: Nothing to worry about, you'll be fine
b: Hmm, you might struggle a little
c: For god's sake, change it out! Your legs will fall off half way up Bitchling!somewhere between a and b sano, but you will make it. i know from the halloween ride you roll with quite cut down risers, as i do too around town. a hill like this will make you feel like something with a little more leverage.

Which I have!
Thank the lord for front loading stems and a spare set of drop bars!

it's been a couple of years since i last went up so my memory plays tricks. too many miles, too many hills. i would say parts of ditchling are up there with the top of Swains lane. maybe BMMF can elucidate further

ok so boredom has set in at work, nothing to do, except the forum
so started this last night, finished it today

sorry this is so big
not many other rides have their own spoke cards, now they just gotta be printed, this is the difficult bit
if anyone has ideas about printing on card and lamination let me know, also tell me hwat you think, i tink they're ok for a small project, but lack perfection

I don't think any part of it's as steep at the last part of Swains. Think 2 Highgate West Hills one after the other (kind of).
There's no need to worry about it, even if you do have to hop off, it will only be for a couple of minutes.
It's just the dented pride you have to contend with....
