I'm not entirely sure of the section out of London, but being a Kent boy I can tell you everything you need to know about the route once you enter God's own garden.
There's a short sharp rise of no more than 300 yards just before you pass Biggin Hill airfield. Once past the road rises very gradually all the way through Biggin Hill before the plunge down Westerham Hill, incidentially written about by Matt Seaton on the very first page of The Escape Artist. It's then lumpy but mostly on a slight downhill through Brasted to Sundridge where you'll chuck a right up New Road. The road to Ide Hill begins with a sharp section but then is a very gentle rise all the way to the top.
See you all there!

Careful going down Westerham Hill - on gears 50mph is do-able (so into the 30s on fixed probably), but you've got to watch for traffic darting out of the Pilgrim's Way junction :O

I'm thinking of riding gears as well. Know it's fixed forum and all but I need to get the roadie out some more and I'm missing a long-overdue clubrun for this..

I don't care what you lot ride, just don't leave me behind.
And don't be wearing roadie lycra - since I'm going to be looking at your backsides for most of tomorrow, have the decency to cover up at least. I don't want to be having nightmares about hairy ar5e cracks.

I think I may be on..GEARS!!
someone's lent me a geared bike to make the trip easier on my old bones. (read, other geared riders don't want to be disrupted by the way of the fixed)
the only problem is that the last time I rode a geared racer was in 1988.
things have changed

Thanks for being map-man brett. Very nice ride. Great to be back out on the (road) bike in some real terrain!
Thanks also to the rest of you for putting up with me! :) -

hipster, good to see you and the crew - did ya ride back as well?
we rocked past the becs one but decided not to stop, clocked about 75 miles by the end...

the whole thing looked like a world of pain!

I'm sure they are all very well, just not for me.

Hello to everyone who came down to watch at the Catford and/or Bec today. Managed a couple of PBs but a bit vexed not to have squeezed under 2 minutes in the Bec. Really 'enjoyable' day.
I think I have the honour of being the fastest fixed rider in both events, just ahead of Matt Goodes (previous winner/fixedwheelnut's mate).
The winner of the Bec beat the event record with 1.43. He's some rider (Dan Fleeman) who's spent most of his time on the continent (apart from the Tour of Britain), and according to his stats - for those who are that way inclined - he put out 701W during the Bec which is 11W per kg of bodyweight. If he wasn't on drugs, that's a-fucking-mazing :O
I'm now having wine/pizza/ice-cream/chocolate/etc :D

top effort BMMF.
that 1.43 was very impressive -

next year I want to see a drug free hill climb.
it's ruining the sport ;)

Next year I'm considering a drug-fuelled hillclimb. A quarter of leb-gold, and I'm on for the lanterne rouge.
Well deserved outing for the newly built geared bike - I don't plan on changing gears (much) though, if that counts...
