  • 0830 outside borough tube station is cool with me.

  • hippy BMMF: What's with your team name? Doesn't sound like no xxxx CC to me..?

They've been trying to poach me for years, and kindly offered free membership if I'd ride the climbs for them. They're some kind of offshoot from a small eco-business, but have been very active getting youngsters involved in cycling and shepherding them all the way up to riding continental races. There was even a Polish connection :) Their man Rafael rode the fastest single lap ever at the now defunct Eastway circuit, and was tearing it up the climbs last year. Sadly he's gone back to his homeland :(

The kit is happily less offensive than my previous club's :)

Brett - thanks, mate. As well as could be expected with all my other commitments - it's all psychological on the day anyway!

  • Good club kit.. that's what it's all about.. the truth is clear... ;)
I always join clubs with kit I don't like. :S

  • so are you all going to the bec hillclimb later the same day that is on the way back?
    seems rude not to.

  • It's such a bummer that this clashes with the polo tournament.

What do you think are the cahnces of getting back to town (by train maybe) in time to catch some polo?

I don't really know how long the hill climb will be on for?

  • The Catford will be all wrapped up by 1pm; the Bec by 3.45pm.

The Bec is worth seeing if you've not got other plans. It's often been the bigger spectacle of the 2, and because the final stretch is straighter and wider, it's a bit more spectator friendly. Plus it's a nice ride down Toys Hill and then up and along the Pilgrims Way to get between the events :)

  • should be getting along to the Bec one. see you there!

  • I tend to go blind temporarily after these things, so might not see you.

  • I'll shout at you.

you'll know where I am, I have a habit of shouting the most random things at competitiors

  • Good - I like a bit of semantic irregularity.

  • "Move your friggin' arse you semantic irregularity!!!!"

  • looking forward to this i think...

  • stoopid me double booked with bike festival festivities :(

I hope there aren't any hills on the route down? I'm planning on watching not participating in any climbing.

  • argh. I want to see both Polo and Hill-climb.

Will there be Polo after 3.00 in town?

Train should take an hour, Hill-climb ends at 1.00?

    ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • meeting some peeps at the host gallery but deffo see you lot down there

  • stompy

It's a steady climb out of bowl-shaped London, nothing too bad, then down, then up to the top of the North Downs.
Go to "Show" / "Elevation Profile" on the linked map. The first kink in it is Denmark Hill I think, so you might be able to gauge the rest from that.

Meh - If it gets too bad, I'll walk it.

    I have no shame.

I'd like to try and get back for the polo as well, but if I've got a pass, I want to use it for getting some miles in at least.
