• yummy scrummy

  • More cake, and more do what ever you want. Your life.

  • It's an ordinary Bicycle, so direct drive to the front wheel...

Please excuse my ignorance i didn't know what an ordinary bicycle was.

So it's a bike with just a front brake.

Plus a chain is less likely to snap than a brake cable

Also in the wet a cheap brake loses stopping power anlotmmore than a fixed drivetrain

But actually debating with someone who lacks the mental faculties to engage in rational argument is possibly pointless.

Sorry did you miss it the last three times I said she doesn't ride it in the wet.

And for the second time I keep my bikes and her bikes well maintained and I haven't had a cable snap in as long as I remember.

How about learn to read before you start talking about who has the mental faculties to engage in rational argument.

  • You really are a twat!

    See the diagram above buddy.

  • So what happens if the weather changes?

  • Please excuse my ignorance i didn't know what an ordinary bicycle was.

So it's a bike with just a front brake.

No, it's not. This is what it is:

  • Yeah, a bike with just a front brake.

Looks alot safer to ride than the girlfriends bike tho :)

  • [QUOTE=Chris Borneo;1612600]Please excuse my ignorance i didn't know what an ordinary bicycle was.

You may not have noticed Chris, but a lot of people here have been trying to help you with your ignorance, It's a Vintage cycle over a hundred and thirty years old, they are called ordinary bicycles to differentiate them from safety cycles, which is the sort that you are arguing in favour of running in a dangerous and illegal manner, hope that's helped.

  • .........

    So it's a bike with just a front brake...............blah,blah..............

    troll

Yeah sorry, I should have made it clearer that I had read the article and that I am now aware that we are talking about a bike that is more commonly known as a penny farthing but it does not change tha fact that it is still a bike that has just a front brake ie no rear brake!

BTW I will be doing the Skyride this sunday, on a brakeless fixed-wheel.It was built in 1888, and is a Challenge 'Ordinary'. Now there's a bike which demands care!

I was really aiming the comments at Borntoolate who thinks my girlfriends bike is dangerous because it only has a front brake.

Are there going to be many people at this Skyride?

  • Do you care about your girlfriend?
Do you agree that it is *possible *that having a front and rear brake might be safer?
Do you agree that there is no disadvantage in having two brakes?
If it's yes, yes and yes then just fit the bloody back brake.
And also, why not show her the arguments here and let her make her own mind up, it being her bike and her safety that is at issue?

  • Direct drive to front wheel

What kind of normal bike is front wheel drive, or are you a clown cycling backwards?

    @DJ Ordinary not normal.

  • It's an ordinary Bicycle, so direct drive to the front wheel...

    For posterity

    ^Also this for posterity^

  • I've shaved off my moustache.

Totally irrelevant, but this is a 'happening thread' and I thought I'd announce it to avoid being merged by Hippy with 'Look at this fucking Hipster..."

    Ex Hipster.

    My lip is cold.

  • Okay so after Pistoffski's point earlier, I have discussed it with my girlfriend and I am going to fit a rear brake but please concider this.

No one has given Borntoolate any grief for his decision to ride an 'ordinary bike' on the Skyride, which from what I can tell involves riding in a group of people with a bike that essentially has only a front brake.

I would also suggest that as he is deemed capaple of riding an 'ordinary bike' with just a front brake then surely he must be capable of riding a 'safety cycle' with just a front brake, no?

So how is this any different from my girlfriend, who is a very competent cyclist, riding one?

    Yep, deffo a troll.

  • you still wont back down. as wiganwill said you should ask your friend her opinion. it would be interesting to know what she thinks before and what she thinks after reading this thread.

  • Im doubting this 'girlfriend' exists.

Well one obvious difference is that it was his decision; and it should be your girlfriend's, not your's. You talk about her like some 1950's husband always knowing what is best for the little woman.

  • This is getting better and better. I need to open a bottle of wine. Better than watching an episode of Eastenders

1 She's read this thread and her only comments were "why the fuck are you wasting your time arguing with these idiots, it makes you just as stupid as them."

2 She decides what she wants and doesn't want on her bikes. I had to persuade her to put a back brake on.(see below)

Okay so after Pistoffski's point earlier, I have discussed it with my girlfriend and I am going to fit a rear brake

3 I think you guys should admit that you're making one rule for person and one for another. After all the arguments you have put forward against not running some kind of back brake, how can you condone someoe riding an 'oridinary bike' in a group bike ride?

  • I still think brakeless is dumb, no matter how good your skillz are.
single braked SS is as stupid.

sorry but I literally couldn't give a flying fuck about your counter arguments, so this thread is on ignore as of this post.

    What he said.

Edit: My chain failed today, what would a brakless rider do in that scenario?
I mean, besides getting seriously hurt and most likely causing some damage to others.

  • and your friend really said that?

    to which you replied?
