• Good article and awesome comments!

    My fave:

    Dear Plod,
Please feel free to visit the environs of London Fields, Hackney whenever you need your monthly fines tally topping up....there you will find numerous brakeless fixie riders (theyre easy to spot - unpolished second-hand brogues, tatty ill-fitting charity shop clothes, Rayban Wayfarer shades and asymetrical "ironic" hair...)...its high time this scourge to society was dealt with...i thank you for your prompt attention

  • Murtle, why not just use a hammer?

Bet you never thought of that before.

  • haha

  • Murtle, why not just use a hammer?

Bet you never thought of that before.

Banging your head against a hammer fucking hurts.

  • oh my god.

  • I don't think Chris is putting MONEY before his girlfriend's safety. I think he's putting his desperate need to be right, and his ego's craving not to have his girlfriend look 'uncool'in the eyes of his peers, before her safety.
Everyone's special, but some are more Special than others.

  • BTW I will be doing the Skyride this sunday, on a brakeless fixed-wheel. It was built in 1888, and is a Challenge 'Ordinary'. Now there's a bike which demands care!
MY girlfriend however, will be riding a carrier bike, with two very good brakes, cos I luvs her.

  • Can you all stop being arseholes to Chris Borneo

In this new climate of tolerance we need to embrace his right to stupidity, in no way should he be mocked or accused of utter fuckwittery.

That would be wrong and bad - the behaviour of an asshole

    Asshole

  • Also if we have more gifted members like this committing lemming suicide (and I utterly respect their right to do this and them encouraging their nearest and dearest) then we need to be nice to them so other traffic canon fodder feel safe to join the forum.

I hope I have not misunderstood anything here

  • Maybe I used the wrong word. I'm not sure but like I said, some people would concider a bike unsafe without reflectors, mirrors etc and I think but I'm not sure that the law requires one at least on the back. Do you see the point I'm trying to make?

Yes, it's known as a "straw man argument".

  • bonio you don't actually want to understand it, do you?

  • New avatar for Murtle?

  • i'd rather ride brakeless than drunk now.

  • i'm gonna do both, it's thurstday

  • on a brakeless fixed-wheel.

So it's cool for you to ride a brakeless fixed gear (essentially a bike with only a back brake) but my girlfriend can't ride a single speed with just a front brake.
    Ha ha, good logic buddy

  • he is probably an experienced rider, your other half isn't

  • (asshole) (*)

  • I still think brakeless is dumb, no matter how good your skillz are.
single braked SS is as stupid.

sorry but I literally couldn't give a flying fuck about your counter arguments, so this thread is on ignore as of this post.

  • So it's cool for you to ride a brakeless fixed gear (essentially a bike with only a back brake) but my girlfriend can't ride a single speed with just a front brake.

It's an ordinary Bicycle, so direct drive to the front wheel...

  • Plus a chain is less likely to snap than a brake cable

Also in the wet a cheap brake loses stopping power anlotmmore than a fixed drivetrain

But actually debating with someone who lacks the mental faculties to engage in rational argument is possibly pointless.

  • As a newbie, i think it's great that

    2) you can argue and call people what you like

    Begbie

This isn't the way forward. Only post what you'd say to someone face to face in the pub. Otherwise arguments and bitchyness start.

    Penny Arcade said it best:

  • shut up benny boy.

  • So it's cool for you to ride a brakeless fixed gear (essentially a bike with only a back brake) but my girlfriend can't ride a single speed with just a front brake.
    Ha ha, good logic buddy

You really are a twat! Google an ordinary and let the light dawn on your feeble mind.

  • Direct drive to front wheel

What kind of normal bike is front wheel drive, or are you a clown cycling backwards?

  • It's an ordinary Bicycle, so direct drive to the front wheel...

    For posterity
