Loud enough to be audible, and give me a tiny bit of tinnitus after some interesting song selections from the Ellis.
ps. is this how edscoble feels?
like a cheap Hi-fi at max volume, yes, a bit.
as for headphone, I ride with this;
the worse thing about those, is that there's only one manufacturer making this in the world, even worse, they're poorly made and often break after a year usage, very rubbish but it's the only option.
the best bit however, is I can turn the volume in my hearing aids to it's lowest setting, increase the volume to max on the iPod and instant noise-cancellation.

sorry i didn't realise you were deaf, my previous comment was expressing my distaste for people who play music on their mobiles in public.

That was me MartinJKnight. Some Knight you are. Bastard.
My appolies you old hag.
i think you'll find it is actually selfish to ride with headphones in. pricks.
Haha, yeah you could say it's a bit selfish, but as long as you still have full aware of the noise around you it's okay, right?
Besides, I've mostly listened to music whilst cycling through the canals at night.

The Mace lid is for bmx... yeah it makes you look a bit of a prick but so do most lids.. But it combines safety and slayer.. an oxymoronous combination

Out on the mountain bike I'll wear some JVC marshmallows, which are very cheap, sound good, and block out lots of sound. I'd never dream of listening on the road though!

lol, so that would kind of cool. I wouldn't like having to keep waiting for the Locks to fill up and empty each so and so yards. That would be annoying.

get some ray charles or stevie wonder glasses aswell ,you wont only hear the traffic ,you wont see it either so you wont have to worry about it.or is it a fucking stupid idea to take your senses away whilst cycling

Yaknow, Im not sure it was the glasses that meant they couldn't see. I think those were just regular sunglasses.
Unless 'stevie wonder glasses' is supposed to be a new (offensive) slang term for being blind. In which case, that is just plain mean.

personal preference, safer without headphones for those who think it's dangerous. a totally different type of reality for those who enjoy muzak while cycling.
-
• #217
scoober i wasnt mocking blind people,i think the same about ipodestrians and mobile phone pedestrians, their in a world of their own when they step off the kerb into me on my bike or other vehicles cos they aernt using the senses they were born with

I feel the same way about people who listen to music in cars, or drive with their windows up, and I imagine that it is quit difficult to hear things when you are wearing a motorbike helmet as well or when you are driving a tractor. These are people making a choice to take away their sense of hearing, or people designing vehicles on the assumption that you don't need to hear in order to operate them safely.
I don't wear headphones when I ride (it's extra weight :) ), but the only justification for getting on a high horse about it is that in order to operate a vehicle safely, you should be able to hear everything. And this is just not true in general, and there is no good reason for thinking it is true for bikes.
2 further things. The car that is going to hit you sounds just like a car that is going to miss you. And anyone who relies on their ears to tell them where something is without doing a visual check is a crap cyclist.

Anyone ride with music on? if so which headphones do you use... mine just broke so i need to buy a new pair.
incidently, best track to ride to?
Sennheiser PX 100.
Over-the-top style headphones, great quality sound, good bass, fold-up, and can be had off eBay for about £25. Use them with a clip-on iPod Shuffle - great combo for cycling, and if either of them happen to get broken, it's not the end of the world (luckily hasn't happened to me yet).
Regarding cycling with music in a city... I do it in London. May be slightly safer without listening to music, but then listening to something you like is much better than honking horns and angry pedestrians/drivers. Also makes me cycle faster and harder. I guess it comes down to if you trust your vision as much as your hearing.

This thread is getting heated in some areas. I guess the point of the thread was to find out what headphones people use and which are good and which are not so good. Seeing as headphones are not exactly a 'try before you buy' kind of product this is a good idea. Maybe we keep it to that?

What kind of jack is it?
Like would it fit a normal port? -
• #224
yeah it's a normal 3.5 mm jack, a straight one not at a right angle :-)

Worth a bump I though as my speakery/amp thing has arrived. It's ace! Clips over my bagstrap and is quite loud enough. Runs from 2 AA batteries.
