i've had knee problems in the past so it might be an idea to lower my gearing then. it runs so nicley though...don't wanna fuck it up!
changing the cog is unlikely to fuck it up, but it will make the bike more responsive in traffic, easier to stop quickly, and much better going uphill. and help your knees. although you're probably developing some massive quads... ;)
my fuji track (07) came with a 48-16, which i changed to 48-18 which i think is perfect around town. but each to his own.

Fuji Track Pro i saw was an older model than current one. 99% sure imported. Bikebiz the new one for £300 or so.

considering the 2008 is slightly cheaper (as in the prices quoted above) and has slightly better components.... it's a no-brainer isn't it? i think the new one looks good, too (and i have the old one).
the stock quill stem on the 07 is a heavy, ugly piece of crap and I immediately ditched it. the new version looks heap better (and will be easier to replace anyway cos it looks like it's got an aheadset now). so if you want to change the bars it gives you more options in terms of swapping stems to accommodate different diameters etc.
-
• #330
anyone know what diameter the stock bars on the fuji 08 are?
-
• #331
yeah, 2008 definately.
much prettier. -
• #332
are you guys looking at the same two bikes as me?
the '08 is painted in Speed Camera Grey... :S
ive asked a few people and we all agree the '07 looks better..am i missing somthing?
-
• #333
its not our choice to make. i prefer the look of the 2008 one. but thats my own opinion.
however badtmy makes the best point. Value for money wise its 2008 all the way to the bank. -
• #334
depends if you prefer the more modern look of the 07, or the retro style on the 08.
but if you're buying it for looks then perhaps you shouldn't be looking at a fuji ;) they're good honest bikes for the money, and they handle nice and sharp, but they won't win many beauty pageants.... IMHO. -
• #335
more modern looks of 07? retro 08?
just because the 08 is simple does not mean it is retro.
the 07 was horrific, the 08 must now be the best looking OTP?
-
• #336
The '08 is definitely retro - the font is straight disco. But it is hot hot hot. I'm super impressed with the new fuji paintjobs. Very nice. I would go 08 no second thought. Despite having two fixed already, I'm thinking of getting the fuji anyways. Just because.
Oh yeah, I love me some low gearing. 39:17 every day. Started as my polo gear, learned to love it for all my riding.

• #337
we all know that the fuji Obey is where its at! [/joke]
-
• #338
i may be being retarded here, so apologies if that's the case. i'm not sure whether i have a 1/8 or a 3/32 chain, how can i tell? don't wanna buy the wrong replacement cog. the fuji website tells me its a KMC Z-410 chain...greek to me
-
• #339
The very first hit on Google tells me it's a 1/8.

The very first hit on Google tells me it's a 1/8.

what you think about the Giant Bowery? -
• #343
Now that IS fuckin ugly!
-
• #344
yeah i also prefer the look of the 08 fuji, to be honest.
-
• #345
Why would a company the size of Giant design a bike with the chainring mounted on the inside of the spider?
That's just lazy
-
• #346
inside of the spider? it comes with a spider?
-
• #347
hehe! i'd agree with you if it hadn't come complete with a full set of reflectors and a bell!
They have to have them by law... It's a track bike, change that cog for the street!
I ran 48:16 for about six months, changed to an 18t Phil Wood cog and life is so much better. I reckon my average speed in traffic is the same or maybe quicker.
-
• #348
okay you guys have confused me..
what the hell is this spider business..
whats wrong with that cog?
what reflectors? -
• #349
the spider is the crank on the drive side without the chainring.
The gearing 48:16 may not be low enough to keep you comfortable whilst riding, causing knee problems and a general lack of souplesse in your cycling action.
Nothing is wrong with the cog, it's just that Phil woods are much better. They won't make you go faster, but a different gear ratio can make the bike easier to control and that can make you faster.
Reflectors and a bell must be supplied with any new bike intended for road use, as of a law passed last year.Get the fuji track, you won't regret it. No one here has said anything bad about it to my knowledge.
I'd get it in the 08 version, but you can get an new old one here:

oh so the spider is the crank being two peices screwed together?
i've had knee problems in the past so it might be an idea to lower my gearing then. it runs so nicley though...don't wanna fuck it up!
