I reckon 105 brakes are overkill on a fuji track. The quality of the other components isn't that high (i own one and really enjoy riding it, btw), so i reckon you could stick with tiagra and it wouldn't be a tragedy - and you'd save a few quid.
I think fuji's are made in taiwan (as are most mass-production bikes).
If you're that concerned about the hills, and only want one bike, then [sacrilege] have you thought about getting one with gears? -
• #303
@badtmy. its mainly the going down that bothers me, so single with brakes should cover that. if the hill is too steep to get up with 1 gear, fuck it, its too steep :P
and Tiawan, really? i guess that makes sense, the bike is rather cheap. oh well.
thanks again! Shimano leavers as well? id probably put risers/ flat bars (or at the very least turn the drops over and cut them down) so dont want the big road leavers

105 brakes aren't overkill on anything, this statement makes no sense.
they stop you. they stop you better than other brakes. there might not be a lot in it, but they certainly work well. it has nothing to do with the frame or the quality of the other components and everything to do with how much you want to stop with only a front brake. tiagra would be ok, but 105 better.

No shit, more expensive components are better than cheaper ones! My god! My point is that the major performance difference is one of weight, not of stopping power. Tiagra brakes have more than adequate performance, but IMHO you'd be better putting the cash saved towards new pedals, or new bars cos the stock pedals and bars are rubbish.
There's nothing wrong with having the appropriate level of componentry to suit the rest of the bike! You wouldn't put phil wood hubs on a fuji track, for example, even tho they're clearly better than the formulas the bike comes with... -

He's running two brakes, as well.

Shit - just saw some little black kid going the other way down Blackstock Road totally out of control on a blue Fuji track that looked about three sizes too big for him. Looked at him thinking "that's so stolen", but I'm a dumbass and didn't think until five minutes later that I should have maybe chased him down and confronted him... Don't know how far it would have got me anyway... Hope nobody just lost one...

I prefer the black of the 2007 model to the 2008
The prices are about the same.. is there a great deal of difference between the specs?
2008

better headset/stem combo on the 2008 model. the rest of it looks pretty much the same.
-
• #311
2008 one is a better colour. In muy opinion. Otherwise not a lot between them.

go nuts and get the track pro!

after much reading of this site and a few questions i recently became the proud owner of a 2008 track, so thanks to all for the great advice. as it's my first fixed i can't say if it's any better or worse than the 2007 but i love it, it's really quick. the gearing is 48/15 which seems a bit high but that could just be my low fitness levels and weak legs! i'll give it a while before changing anything i think
-
• #314
yep just got one myself, swapped out seat bars and maybe forks.
love the new graphics but might be spraying it soon anyway.
-
• #315
Really like the Pro! Can you get that frameset on its own?
-
• #317
Yeah, that Felt is pretty sweet... That Fuji Pro frame would look fsckin' awesome with a matt black paint job, I could swap out all the parts from my IRO too... Hmmm, time to do a bit of research methinks...
-
• #318
been trying to find it myself, to no avail, got a lot of stuff to swap over, and then sell another bike....

that's a BIG gear. in fact, it's in the mid-80's. massive.

it seems perfect for going downhill, i can go fast but i feel in control. the uphills are ok as long as they're not too steep! i'm sure this topic has been well covered on here, but how much difference would it make to go with a 16 or 17t cog?

The key's in the name. The gear's presumably as such because it's being set up/sold as a track bike ;o)
I expect most on here would opt for 16-19t for the road, and it does make quite a difference! -
• #322
yeah red knightmare 48 x 18 is pretty popular on here, 48 x 17 might suit you. your knees won't be thanking you for that 15t after a while. to each man his own though.

hehe! i'd agree with you if it hadn't come complete with a full set of reflectors and a bell!

I just saw a Track Pro someone has built up today, I'll try to find out where he got it. Edwardes has Fuji Track frames only for £175 at the moment.

that'd be ace.
I have a fuji with shimano 105 on them front and back. Works fine with some plastic cable clips securing the back.
