  • Cycles Plus (in high wycombe I think) resells these. Think he only carries the basic brushed, and the basic with reflecto strips. Maybe the ones for ultratight clearances that are sort of leapfrogged over seatstay bridge/ shortened to end behind fork, not sure.

Dude called Francis Thurmer, does go to jumbles at HH etc. Unfortunately he's not an email/web person... send cheque in post etc.

  • PS If you get them, do not overtorque the draw bolts! Just lots of threadglue.

  • I took a random stab at it and ordered some- comparing the receipts from the last ones I ordered (which Corny now has) I've got a different, new and exciting pair coming in the post from France soon.

  • Fuck alone knows if they'll work.

  • The original was tighter than the SKS on my Dad's Bob Jackson, the main reason is that the alu is quite thick and rub on the tyres.

Ditch the brake mount and drill a holes on the mudguard to mount it on the brake bridge/crown instead, they take up a lots of room.

The wider rims mean that the tyres poke out a tad and have lots of side splash.

    Still look awesome thought.

  • These are (possibly, depending on wtf turns up) going on the path racer which has 23c tyres.

The guard is drilled, it doesn't have the squared off U thing to go over the caliper.

  • I quite like the look of the minimal affair, shortened to only rack up the brake holes and no further, called Ref GBTTC13027. Maybe good if you like your tyre right up against the seat tube, have tiny clearances both ends, but still want a dry-ish clean backside when one rides in shitty weather.

  • I went for:

    Ref GBTTC 13004

    Paire GARDE BOUE ECO

700 ou 650 en ALU POLI

Which will doubtless turn out to be the wrong ones.

  • Indeed. It's all in foreign after all, who knows what you've ordered?

  • Anyone come across any low profile 'guards for 27" wheels?

My road bike runs on 27 1/4" (32c ish) gatorskins and there isn't much clearance under either fork crown or brake bridge.

Last year I had a pair of SKS crud racer 2's on there, with some heating and resetting of the plastic I managed to get them to run fairly well, only the medium/long tail on the rear guard would cause constant waggling. Took them off for summer, gone to re-use the and they are so mangled from having junk on them no amount of heating /bending will get them to fit without serious rubbing on tyre side walls.

Anyone know of anything more suitable? Raceblade long's might help get around the clearance issue, but fitting 32c anywhere near them?

  • I have longboards on a road bike with the same wheel size and tyre size. What sort of clearance are you talking about - mine is about as tight as the 45mm guards will work in (i.e. about .5mm left on either side). I can measure/ take pics if it helps?

  • Its tyre to bridge (vertical) rather than width issues. i'll measure, but prob about 6-8mm rear and less at the front :(

Was designed for that size wheel but 27 x 1 or 27 x 1 1/4 tyres for TT (tiny headtube).

  • I used those Salmons on 27"s with great results, but they're more like 1&1/8" max or the tyre would stick out the side and look silly. So you'd need to find 27" x 1&1/8" or possibly even 1" (I had them with 1"). No easy feat.

I'd suggest you use 700 wheels in the frame, then any mudguards will fit, and it'll look better. Get Gilles Berthouds. Mudguards are for summer too! It rains all year ...

  • I've got a pair of NOS Salmon mudguards if anybody is interested.

  • Which ones?!

  • Its tyre to bridge (vertical) rather than width issues. i'll measure, but prob about 6-8mm rear and less at the front :(

Do measure; I'd say I'v got about 8-9mm and it looks to be working (just)

  • Which ones?!

    The thin aluminium jobs.

  • Of the ones on this page (http://www.cyclesdsalmon.com/gardebouevelo2014.htm) which ones do you have?

  • Look to be the GBF1D. Although I'm not 100%. There is no code with the guards. All the stays and fixings are there though.

  • ^^ Yeah they probably are that model, a very thin strip with slight sides. 23-25c seems to be the max that they will cover, shame otherwise I'd have them off you!

  • The GBF10 is the one that goes over the top of the caliper?

  • Must be these then. Look like polished aluminium to me.
    This fitting type though.

  • Is the PDW worth the price difference over a set of SKS Longboards? They all get positive reviews, both seem to fit tightly over a 23c tire, although it seems the SKS provides more coverage due to its slightly rounder profile...

  • The alu ones?
'laser graphics' totally worth the difference
