The Oracle maybe talking some sense. The body retracts heat from the extremities to protect the core. So it would be easier to keep your feet warm if the rest of you is, including the legs, which many of us tend to leave exposed until the coldest months.
so, are we trying to say, that if i rode to wests tonight, naked, apart from some merino socks, sidis and kinkyboot overshoes, my feet would still be colder than the rest of my body?
turn it up.

If your legs are not covered you will loose more heat through them.
Pretty much, your blood travel from your heart to your feet, if not covered, the blood will get cool down by the time it reach your feet (echoing tommy).
And I do experience those a lots as I often ride home in the middle of the night, leather glove plus thick soft-shell jacket kept my hand toasty, even if the first few miles was freezing (on the hand that is).
I also have some thick trouser which helped keep my feet warm (combine with wooly sock and boots).

You're just trying to say that you've got cold feet since we agreed that you were going to do this.

you talk the biggest load of shit! FACT.how about apart from your 'own' experiences, how about a bit of textbook physiology to back it up, not hearsay.

your arteries are well away from the external parts of the body. when its cold you boy will stop circulating areas to conserve heat, your blood won't get cold.
to answer african sunset. yes your feet will be warm, but your testicles maay be u around your neck.

Big Jim.
Six different faces.
Everyone one of them really, really rapey.

pfff, amateurs. just do what i do and employ a phalanx of underage peruvian rent-boys to run alongside me, breathing their hot, cherry cola flavoured breath on my legs thereby ensuring they are toasty roasty - if i get chilly at a red light i keep warm by cutting one open with my lightsaber and sleeping in his body cavity.

That sort of thing is all too familiar these days.

In the short-term surface (skin) capillaries actually dilate when they are exposed to cold, rather than shut down as Ed suggests (in an attempt to keep the skin oxygenated) - hence why you get red cheeks and nose (or lobster pink legs) in frosty weather.

It's been snowing here in the countryside today.. Heard it would snow in the North-east, didn't think it'd come this far down.

where I am from it is a punishable offence to drive your car on icy roads without winter tyres. when I see all those crashed cars on BBC this morning it seems that the British aren't even considering it.
with all those self indulgent cunts swerving all over the place is it even safe to cycle now?

The real eye opener for me up here. Is how nearly an entire city full of very experianced winter drivers, will leave their cars at home. If winter comes early and they havent changed their tyres.
(We did'nt use our car for 10 days this Autumm, as it was at the top of our driveway with summer tyres on, and I needed the early snow to clear so I could drive to flat ground.)
I'm usually proud of the british 'carry on regardless' attitude. But sometimes its just naive.

My lovely winter riding clothes have still not arrived, and its -7.5C. Was in a really bad mood about it this, this morning, when an oncoming 4x4 van crossed to my side of the road, because roadworks had closed their side.
I held my ground, got into my best rugby hunch, and shouldered their wing mirror. Man they build those Toyotas well.
4x4 - 1

Yup - as I discovered when trying to buy some tyres for the car this week. Nil stock on all winter tyres as none are coming over here.

Man it is so fucking cold today it's going to take me 3 hours just to get enough hot tea inside me before I can even think to venture out on the bike.
He has questioned the omnipotent Edsquabble - burn him!!
[tho if we burnt you from the feet up would your fingers still be cold whilst your feet were on fire?]
