Pol,
you keep repeating that it was abandoned.
For how long? When was the first time you saw it? And is the fact it is a Colnago a factor in wanting to liberate it?
You clearly don't think you've done anything wrong and I'm not going to attempt to convince you, but unless you've got pics from 6 months ago in the exact same spot I don't see how you can prove it was 'abandoned' or anything like it.
You have a bike, so need doesn't enter into it, just greed-how you have sought to justify and excuse it makes no difference.
The only right thing you can do is go put it back where you found it with a note wrapped round the top tube apologising and a new lock then go away and work some overtime to fucking buy yourself a bike like everyone else fucking well does...

I understand your point Robin, but don't be a dick about it. No one should be hurting anyone over this. Let's not be encouraging that kind ballbaggery.
Wouldn't say I was being a dick, just a little enraged at what the toerag thinks he can get away with.
Imagine if it was your bike.

not losing much here...i'm off i don't need lfss randoms to tell me i'm sentenced to go to hell for taking an abandoned frame. I know i'm not stealing and i have a clear mind
Correct me if I'm wrong but in the other thread where you initially started discussing this and before you edited your post, did you not say that you were tempted to steal it as soon as you saw it? Blatent theft, and you know it.

Further to what Velocio said above, surely the mere fact that it's flippin' Colnago in good nick would be reason enough to make you assume it's not necessarily abandoned?
As I'm sure you know, they're not the cheapest frames, so why would someone just leave one for kind soul to take? -

Is it a Colnago though?

Abandoned there 2 hours before, by my mate, sitting in my living room. -

What a bell end, nice bike that, lets hope he spends money on it, then gets it taken from him by a local.
Pol Paz, hope you got a turbo trainer, cos thats the only use for that bike you'll have, people are pissed.

don't worry, just keep an eye on the stolen bikes thread. The owner is sure to turn up, then it will be easy to apprehend Pol Paz because his details are already with the police.

The police bit is utter bullshit.
Tried to get a few proper abandoned bikes taken from a rack so the rack could be used and police said no its theft can only be removed by the council and they dispose of them.
That bike does not look abandoned.

Lop (Pol Pas's new alias) has emailed this:
Hi there,
Yesterday I had a verbal altercation with other users on this forum. it was about a bike frame i removed from the streets. (old alias: Pol Paz) I'm just fed up of being called a thief when i'm not. I decided to change my alias as it is quite similar to my real name and forumgoers seemed aggressive enough for me to take precautions.
I'm ready to return said frame to the rightful owner if he/she is to be found and not trying to deprive anyone of their possessions.
The police has record of this and will be able to confirm i took the frame. I also left a written notice stating my phone number in the nearest public location and probably where the person who abandoned the frame worked or lived at.
I'm really sorry to have disturbed others doing this and want to show my goodwill to return it to the owner if he claims it back and i think that tangible proof of this is my insistence in showing so much interest in not coming across as a thief.
One more detail, Police has my real name, which is not exactly Pol Paz (the two words are written different and pronounced differently as well), i won't be displaying my personal details, i don't feel comfortable doing so as i already stated that some of the individuals in the forum seem a bit violent and suggested i could get kicked while riding.
Please post this on the correspondent thread for other users to read. I will respond to private messages from other users concerning this topic but i'm definitely not posting any public replies.
I am, however, deeply saddened by the aggression and foul language expressed by lfgss community participants and will not continue to follow this threads after the pending issue is resolvedThanks very much for your help in advance
Regards
Lop

Nice try at claiming the moral high ground, although you my friend are far from it.

Pol Paz is an utter twat, I'd love the owner to find him.

Pol,
can you respond to my earlier post please before getting sanctimonious about abuse you've recieved?
How long was it there for? Can you prove it? Do you not think that if it had been an unbranded frame you'd not have taken it?
Interested to know. I actually don't believe the police would set such a dangerous and stupid precedent as this, or that you can honestly justify what you've done when you yourself openly talked about 'stealing' (your words) it beforehand.

This is unbelievable - what a total cunt. There is no way that that is abandoned.

Pol Paz, I don't know what the police told you, but if they really told you that you could legally take the frame, they were giving you incorrect legal advice (IANAL, though). That's it, really.
In fact, the LCC has had to run two pretty big campaigns in the last four years to have two parliamentary bills (TfL & London Local Authorities Bills 1 and 2) proposing powers for local authorities to remove 'pedal cycles' (first Bill) and then 'items' (second Bill) from the public highway without going through already existing procedures (first alerting the owner to their intention, etc.). Not even local authorities are authorised to remove cycles in the way that you did. The police cannot authorise you to do this, either.
You have to understand that by defending yourself so strenuously, you are providing perfect forum fodder. The fact remains that whatever your real intentions may have been, your act was illegal.

If you see a guy that you think is trying to steal a bike, do you go up to him and say something? Do you approach a man with chisel and hammer? What about a group of kids kicking in a bike? I dont like to say it, but not being a pure burly bloke i probably wouldn't

my dad confronted a man with a hammer and chisel once, so I like to think I'd have the courage to do the same.
but I am a chip off the old block.
Someone should tell the admin of LFGSS that picture upload is broken.
Anyhow... these from my browser cache.
