  • Maybe try something here if you havn;t already
    http://goldencheetah.org/

  • Looking at that now, thanks

  • Heh, my intention is to do as follows (if my tiny brain can cope):

Run Strava application on phone to record track/speed.

    Run SRM.

Combine GPS lat/long and time stamp from Strava generated GPX with the power/speed/heart rate/cadence data from the SRM.

  • Fucking hell, I cannot get any file to attach. Bollocks.

  • I've just used it to convert an .srm into a .csv in ~2 seconds flat.

The analysis is really good as well.

Can you please send the cheque to !!

Isn't it great when a plan comes together

  • Golden Cheetah is awesome, I shall send them a donation.

That, twinned with Topofusion (there is a specific function in that to combine power meter readings with GPX files) and I am sorted. Winner!

  • What do srm files look like? I can't imagine it would be too much hard work to write a script that could convert them to gpx / tcx.
Hippy does IT - He could write a script, innit.

He's working now.. just not on anything interesting.

  • Topofusion looks cool. Kinda pointless, but cool.

  • Have you seen some of the movies that people have made? Your 24 would look pretty cool played back I think.

  • I'm sure those on the Insomniac thread would make good use of my 24hr video..

  • Has Garmin got anything that lasts longer than 24 hours yet?

I'm sure this isn't what you're after - but I've managed over 13 hours with the 800 running on pretty low settings. And apparently these can give you an additional 20 hours... (you only need the butt-plug looking thing)

    http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/4910/garmin-external-battery-pack

I do actually have one and taken it with me on a few rides in case - but i've either not needed it, or I've run them both together intermittently and seemingly ended up with 50% left on each (it will either just charge the main unit or run purely off the external battery).

  • Houston, we have a problem:

    http://connect.garmin.com/activity/131933974

This was converted from a CSV to a GPX using www.gpsies.com

Would anyone care to venture a guess as to what has gone wrong?

  • What's their specification for CSV input say? Does your file match this?

  • gpsies simply lists .CSV on their accepted file type list, I am using the .CSV output from Golden Cheetah, which looks like it makes sense- logical titles, values and so forth.

In terms of a reference .CSV I have nothing to go on.

I'd upload the files I'm talking about, but I haven't got a scooby as to what a mimetype is, so that avenue is closed to me.

  • My headings don't match but hopefully you can get the gist

Here is some data from the GPX file

  • Speed looks to be a constant 6 mph, whereas it should vary. Looks like the columns have been imported as the wrong thing. The "route" plot on that Garmin map looks like the heart rate and/or power track, so that is consistent.

  • A picture is worth a thousand data points

  • Email 'em and ask for a file spec. then make sure your CSV "columns" match it.

  • Fucksticks. GPX files are fully editable in Excel- that was part of the design specification.

Maybe I should just change the CSV into a GPX manually.

I'd really like there to be a utility to do this however.

  • Houston, we have a problem:

    6.2mph average? You sure do...

Although I'll give you the 64,000ft elevation gain.

  • Has Garmin got anything that lasts longer than 24 hours yet?

I (accidentally) read a review online of a GPS only chip thing they make, it doesn't even have a screen but it is a GPS and sends the info back to base somehow.

I can't remember what it was called though I'm afraid, but they definitely make it.

Who said that? The GPX files I've got are definitely not CSV. They're XML which is editable in Excel but if the GPSies thing is expecting CSV and you're giving it a renamed XML file it won't work.

I guess for tracking only. That'd be a sweet option for long TTs.
