  • Who said that? The GPX files I've got are definitely not CSV. They're XML which is editable in Excel but if the GPSies thing is expecting CSV and you're giving it a renamed XML file it won't work.

Editable in Excel- not an Excel file.

The GPSies thing is "expecting" a CSV, however I've just tried it with a PWX and it said "no data", so something's fucked.

  • Write a macro, innit.

I'll see if I can remember how you do that at lunch tomorrow.

That's what I said. "They're XML which is editable in Excel"

CSV isn't an Excel file, it is a comma separated value file, that, like XML, is editable in Excel.

If GPSies is expecting CSV, a GPX is nothing like a CSV file so the conversion will not work.

    What is a PWX?

  • Wrong way round- I am trying to convert a CSV into a GPX in order to be able to upload it to Strava.

Anyway, here is an example of the input file:

For some reason it's binned the heart rate.

  • Actually, I think the cadence column is actually my heart rate, and the KM column is cadence.

EDIT1 actually that doesn't work, KM might be anything- too low to be cadence, and the Km/h column is god knows what.

  • I think the issue here is bad input Hippy- my CSV, exported from Golden Cheetah, makes no fucking sense.

  • ^ That is a GPX file. It's an XML document.

CSV opened in notepad will look like this, basically:

    point, long, lat
    100, 23.345, 64.222

  • Yep, that's what mine looks like- picture above.

    The steps are as follows:

    srm to csv
    csv to gpx

The srm works, I think the issue is the way that it is translated to the csv- the columns don't match the data, so when I try to convert it into a gpx it all goes wrong

  • Doesn't that Topofusion thing convert straight to GPX?
    http://www.topofusion.com/power.php

Get hold of PowerAgent and that will convert the SRM output to CSV. Then use Topofusion. JOb done.

"Note: the .CSV export can be of any recording rate and from power meters other than PowerTap"

  • Cycleops site is down?

  • Sadly PowerAgent won't recognise an SRM file.

  • Ah, I was thinking of Device Agent. It does SRM. But I don't think it does a useful export. It's still xml.

  • Small, cheap, simple GPS tracker that will log time and position, then 'fess up when back from the ride?

Had an Spam E-mail from from outdoor site, trying to sell USB card style GPS trackers for £40 or so.

No idea what they do though.

  • Maybe you could use Training Peaks to combine the data?

Apparently WKO+ will do it- but I'd like to trial it first before buying it, and I could not find a way to download the trial without giving them my credit card number :/

Coolness. I didn't even know it did maps.
Training Peaks also do an Android app. I like them.

  • I thought the Android App was just to log diet and exercise- it does not record activity, unless I missed something?

Cheers for the link Freezing77, I'll try that when I get home.

One of these programs has to work! I'm really disapointed with the Golden Cheetah export- the analysis side of that is excellent, but then it seems to fall flat on his face when it comes to file export.

  • I officially give up. Downloaded WKO+ (which looks quite good), but none of the files that it outputs can be converted into a GPX.

    Boo.

  • Can anyone tell me what batteries the HRM and cadence monitor take for the 705? Got a feeling mine have ran out :(.

    EDIT---

Found the manual online CR2032 http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_3&products_id=107453 10 here for a very good price.

  • Ok, you can upload GPX files to both Garmin Connect and to Strava which have been recorded when the GPS is off- when you are on the turbo.

I am trying to duplicate this type of file so I can upload a turbo session done on a non-gps enabled device.

I'm trying to open the tcx file that my Garmin produces in order to have a look at the data- column names and so on, but it keeps crashing Open Office.

Can someone resave a tcx as a csv that I could open?

*I question the validity of posting static device data on Strava

    #justsayin

  • Tried that, the file output is not recognised.

One of the reasons I like Strava is that it produces nice metrics on activity over week/month/etc.

I'd like to include static sessions to have them "on the record" as it were, so when looking at activity statistics I can have a better idea of what I've done.

That's why I started putting commuting in- at ~18 miles per day it adds up to a lot per week that I was not recording.
