Watched Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit last night.
The part where Jack goes into the Russian bad man's office to steal data is not in Moscow - it's actually in Appold St, EC1 and I saw when they filmed it in 2012. All signs were changed to cyrillic.

Just off for to spend my day in the cinema, Wind Rises and X-Men.

Godzilla last night at the IMAX. I was expecting it to be utter shite, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be very average. Some good moments, but a bit lacking in pace and charisma. Also the creature design was pretty poor, which for a film about giant monsters you feel like maybe that should have got that one thing right.

Hmm, I think I'm going to watch Patriot Games.
And buy a boat.

Wind Rises was heartbreakingly beautiful.
X-Men was fun. Fans of the comics should hang around til after the credits ;-)

godzilla.
solid 8 out 10 ihavewastedmylifepoints. Plenty of easter eggs for the neckbeards and yer beastie had just the right blend of menace, scale and man in a rubber suit.

Watched The Tin Drum
THE TIN DRUM (CC #234) trailer - YouTube
(I last saw this early 80s)
Brilliant dark surreal erotic European film, a refreshing contrast to the usual American crap/fodderHighlights (among other themes) how passive racism becomes accepted & mainstream. Makes UKIP's antics so scary

Saw Godzilla and X-Men over the weekend. Godzilla was good, loved the look of the monster, looked very similar to the many Japanese creations over the years. X-Men was ok I guess, I think I need to see it again.

How does xmen rate amongst the others?
-
• #9892
The simple answer is ok, as good as first class but not better than the first X-men movie, but better than the second one.
It tries to tie the First Class X-Men up with the X-Men from the original 2 movies. (I don't count Final Stand because it was total shite.) Any way it does a good job of most things however you then have a whole load of new questions.
I didn't like the incarnation of the Sentinel they had, but it does work. Bishop is there in the future but totally wasted. At least the ending sets up for another X-Men movie before they do the cross over with the Avengers which is of course Disney's long term play.

X-Men (and Spidey) is Sony - they ain't sharing X-Men franchise with Disney. So much so that Quicksilver (who was isn DOFP) is also in the new Avengers with his sister (glimpsed in the secret scene at the end of Captain America 2), but played by different actors. Oh and Disney aren't allowed to refer to them as "mutants". Lame. Shame they can't all just play nice.

Non stop last night, was actually quite riveting and a good watch. Similarish to Flight Plan.

Another +1 for The Wind Rises. Wow. So much depth to it, and so beautiful to look at. Such poignancy and nostalgia all the way through it as well. I want to go back and rewatch all the other Ghibli films now.
