  • Frank is brilliant. Quite dark but also touching and funny.

  • seven psychopaths - a long time since i've seen a film this crap. stuggling to find anything decent to watch on netflix I might cancel now that i've watched breaking bad (twice)

  • House of cards is awesome, watch that before you cancel.

  • Some films of note watched recently:

Frances Ha – Arty-farty, talky Noo Yorky. Thought this film might wind me up but I enjoyed it. Directed by Noah Baumbach and starring and co-written by Greta Gerwig (who I also enjoyed in Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress).

Fat City – EXCELLENT slice-of-lifer about a former amateur boxer/current professional drinker and the people he meets as he struggles through life. Directed by John Huston and starring Stacy Keach and a (very young) Jeff Bridges, with a show-stealing performance from Susan Tyrrell. Amazing downbeat 1970’s vibes.

Lake Mungo – Creepy Aussie fakeumentary about a family’s struggle in the wake of the death of a girl-with-secrets.

Cure – Japanese psychological thriller chronicling the hunt for a scary weirdo after people are killed in apparent copycat murders. Excellent stuff, however I was pretty steaming by the end so I think I missed some important points made in the closing scenes.

Nebraska – For some reason I was expecting this to be like the Straight Story but it wasn’t. I enjoyed it anyway! I really liked Sideways but was underwhelmed by the Descendants. Maybe I’ll re-watch that film.

    Do documentaries count?

Pumping Iron II – Did you know there was a sequel? It’s about women and is a fascinating watch. Plus the soundtrack is brilliant 80’s in the same way the original was brilliant 70’s. Filmed around the time female bodybuilding contests were a strange mix of beauty contest, dancing and traditional posing. Not that I’d know whether they’re any different now.

Bukowski: Born Into This – As the titles suggests, a doc about the legendary piss-artist and excellent and compelling writer. Very interesting, apart from the bits where Bono and Sean Penn play pretentious, annoying versions of each other.

  • Yowser yowser yowser
Just watched They Shoot Horses Don't They?
    Torture porn from 1969
    Compelling and fresh
    Cypher characters
    Existential and depressing
Inspired movie making by Sydney Polack

  • Shame about that trailer though.

    bitch, I made that.

true? made me want to see it, atmos tunes from 1.10 alone

  • Documentary. Matt Rendell's in it, as are Bradley and Greg Lemond. The best interviewee by far is Pantani's mother, though. Tells it like it is.

A very good documentary! So much fantastic archive footage, it really told the story well. Definitely agree about the mum, she was great, not sentimental as you'd expect but seemed to really get it.

I was so inspired I raced someone up Rosebury Avenue on the way back from the cinema and got a QOM. Whey!

  • this is fantastic.

That was an amazing way to waste half an hour at work. Would rep but I need to spread the love around apparently.

  • The Guardian informed me that Frozen is the highest grossing animation of all time so I have it on in the background to see what all the fuss is about. What the hell. I illegally downloaded it, I'm not actually paying any attention and I still feel cheated.

  • I've seen it about 12 times.

  • good grief. In my day kids were happy with Robocop.

Bless you J. Yep! The original promo for Cannes last year (the one you saw was music made to replace the pitch) ended with Mountain Goat by Amorphous Androgynous.

So you're not warming to it, then?

  • Watched 12 Years A Slave. Hmm. Fassbender = Bale, and Pitt = ridiculous.
    6/10

It was a great screening. I'd forgotten how sane it is, as a film, maybe in that it sort of shows professional sport is a kind of machine that eats peoples' souls. I realise that in itself doesn't sound very sane.

  • "People's"--although you could be right. :)

  • good grief. In my day kids were happy with Robocop.

heh heh, yes indeed. (only saying this due to being of 'that' age too)
Im listening to a lot of this guys music but just cant remember where I know the name from?

Agreed. Beautiful cinematography though. Oh, you forgot Cumberbatch was rubbish too.

  • Pain and Gain on Netflix US. Wasn't expecting much - or anything - from a Michael Bay film starring Mark Wahlberg and the Rock but was pleasantly surprised. Pretty good.

  • On the flip side, hoping for some decent mindless action, watched Jack Ryan Shadow recruit. Rubbish. Chris Pine is likeable, but none of the intelligence of the Harrison Ford originals.

  • you knows it. lols how they insist on showing Chris Pratt's ripped abs just to assure the viewer that he's not just the fat, dimwit from P&R.

    will watch.
