  • hard hitting grit,
recognise the main actor but cant remember where from at mo.
hopefully get that in my area too.

  • inland empire- about an hour too long indulgence with digital film wise, but still lynch manages the whole transition between 'real'/dream storylines (a la Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive) better than any other time he's done it. that doesn't make it a better film, but just still found that particular aspect of his films stronger at least. anyone seen any of the interview projects he's doing at the moment?

Everything I have ever heard about David Lynch and his films is a load of pretentious bollox, remember this man gave us Dune.

Lets do everyone a favour and lets do away with poncy arthouse crap.

    Back on topic,

Watched Happiness Last night and it was neither funny nor enlightening or tragic or any of that even though the IMDB crowd gave it an 8.0 or something.

Tomorrow I am watching "Rear Window" by alfred hitch cock .. back when films didn't have to be poncy to be good.

  • Saw 'Four lions' with a lively Holloway Road crowd last night, excellent satire, thought it was more slapstick than serious as a a whole. O.K film not amazing, last few scenes where they were all getting popped off were brilliantly paced though.

Yeah, a bit average, great idea, some funny bits, but a bit 'meh' really, I didn't even think the end 'they were all getting popped off' was particularly good.

  • Religulose - interesting take on religion.

'Pretentious' - certainly, ambitiously so, I have never understood what the problem people have with pretence ?

  • Anyone moderately interested in seeing that Shane Meadows/Tom Harper/1986 thing soon to be appearing on C4?

A lack of a tellybox means I haven't seen a trailer but have read a fair bit and am interested enough to watch it on 40D if it appears there.

Reading a summary of his films, specifically 24/7 and Romeo Brass and how he came to make them and why today on the Empire website made me really think: "What the fuck am I doing with my life?"

Bought Lebanon the other day. Piss simple idea, beautifully executed.

Also bough Inglourious Basterds which I saw on release and was a bit non-plussed by but was hugely impressed watching it the second time around.

Each of the chapters/episodes is so well paced, I didn't get bored once even though it's 2 and a half hours of bad accents. Fantastic, self contained shorts all working together to provide an excellent whole.

That said I bet the next time I watch it I'll think it's shit.

    What's wrong with Dune?

  • No 'is' on review.

    : (

  • What's wrong with Dune?

Dune is one of my favourite films, it's proper insane.

I might get myself a big fish tank in the week.

  • i like all the shane meadows films, watched some shite on film4 this evening and noticed they are doing a shane meadows thing, i will be watching.

I have a stunning poster/print of Sting on my wall. I love it. In fairness, not to detract from Lynch but much of the absolute downright lunacy of the film comes from Frank Herbert.

  • Love DuneCat :)

His first television work. Effectively a four part dramatised sequel to This Is England.
Written by Meadows with two of the four directed by him. The other two are by Tom Harper, the bloke wot directed The Scouting Book For Boys which features the lad from TiE, Thomas Turgoose.

  • look forward to it

  • What's wrong with Dune?

    It is shit.

  • Your face is shit.

  • No it isn't. I have been told I have very pretty eyes.

Really, Is that the best you can do?

The film had Sting in a codpiece ... comon. And the film went on forever and ever.

  • You've just said some of the best things about it!!!
    "Sting in a codpiece."
    "Forever and ever."

Different strokes for different folks I guess :)

  • Like Brooks saddle isn't it?

  • The codpiece?

    Like a B67 Ed, a B67.

I don't want to watch some overpaid Pop star, in a dated film for 2 hours plus.

  • Like Brooks saddle isn't it?

No a brooks saddle is actually a bit shitter overall, because Dune costs about £1.50 in the DVD bargain bin, and the Brooks costs about £50+

Seen one of his first films, "smalltime"? It's great

    YouTube- Smalltime Clip 2

  • I like Shane Meadows but didn't like This is England - weirdly the 4 parts series looks like it might be ok though

Mulholland Drive by Lynch is fucking ace, anyone remotely into films has to watch it
