  • I have a stunning poster/print of Sting on my wall. I love it. In fairness, not to detract from Lynch but much of the absolute downright lunacy of the film comes from Frank Herbert.

Reading the books after the first one is just asking for trouble. They are utterly batshit.

  • I like Shane Meadows but didn't like This is England - weirdly the 4 parts series looks like it might be ok though

    wonder why?

Mulholland Drive by Lynch is fucking ace, anyone remotely into films has to watch it

Yes, the ultimate fall- asleep movie that is consistantly baffling.

  • 'Pretentious' - certainly, ambitiously so, I have never understood what the problem people have with pretence ?

Lucas wont bite at this, you need to shout louder in his face to get noticed, like the films he likes.

  • Whatever mate, I just like to something to happen in the movies I watch.. at least if someone is shouting at my face ... something is happening.

Anyway I am watching this tonight.

So I will see if it is any good, because Rear Window was.

  • class^^
I am watching crocodile dundee 2,on f4 .tv- the most quality film ever made

Because it is a false display .. in the terms of my complaint, the film is trying to be something it isn't and doing it badly.

I like Action Movies because they are Action Movies and don't pretend to be something else so I can enjoy them. I like Westerns because they are Westerns and don't pretend to be something else.

When I see a Tarrantino movie I see a Director who is trying to make a fairly simple story seems more complicated by just moving the pieces about for pretty much the sake of it. I find it boring, since I am one of those annoying fucks that can watch 2 episodes in a 13 part series and piece together the whole plot in around about 5 minutes, thus unless it is actually interesting i.e. The Wire, Generation Kill. Or each episode is resolved within the hour, I find myself just ignoring huge parts of each episode and skipping through them, because I can piece together what happened very quickly.

It is Pretentious, because it is trying to make itself to be complicated when in fact it is very simple and trying to disguise that fact.

Crocodile Dundee 2, where he throws a snake at a guy and kills him.

    hogwash, utter bunkum
would you say that about 'Pulp Fiction' for example?
where the sequential arrangement of the film dosent follow simple linear narrative?
there are reasons such as this that give rise to acclaim for films made by pretentious directors like Tarantino,
Tarantino has seen more films than any of us have had hot dinners,
it seems more that when Lucas decides something is shit, it is shit,
I have been on the other end of this criticism before, from others on this thread-
so stand up and realise that youre taste is simply that, youre taste.

  • must be a pisstake or Hauer is getting really desperate,
    that was Hauer?
looks like Dusk to dawn, more boring desensitising, shite, sorry

  • Hauer is the man!

Yes when I decide something is shit... I think it is shit ... I don't tend to change my mind very often because I do this strange thing ... called fucking thinking about it.

Remember when we were talking about Festivals.

Me -"I don't want to go to a festival because it doesn't appeal to me"
You - "Have you ever been?"
Me- "No because I have no incentive to go to one"
You - "Well you will like it once you go"
Me- "I don't have any incentive to go because there it nothing that appeals to me, it is like paradox, like the chicken and the egg"
    You -"That isn't a paradox."

I sign and let you continue about some bullshit about fat people where you misunderstand a paradox, which is an unfortunate fact not a paradox.

Yes you have been on the other end of my criticisms because you deserved it.

  • firstly, read this,
    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox[/ame]
the fact that as a society, we are wealthier, enjoy better levels of health care here in the U.K than ever before and yet at the same time suffer from worsening levels of obesity seems to me paradoxical.
this is on at lighthouse tommorrow, its a Film, and American Indie actually, looks factual, not many paradoxes

No the phrase you are looking for which is alluding you is "unfortunate fact".

  • eluding

  • Watching The Headless Woman tonight at Mrs Glover's place (which is also my place; we live together).

Bit gutted as I hate headlessness and women, but I guess if it makes her happy.

Are we still talking about films, or does your missus have a decapitated corpse in the house?

Isn't this the 'What's in your Cellar?' thread?

sorry to be antagonistic, you really should study some Greek,

Me -"I don't want to go to a festival because it doesn't appeal to me"
You - "Have you ever been?"

all this ^^ demonstrates is stubbornness, an inflexibility to understand things from another point of view than your own.

  • That also remind me of High Fidelity;

Rob: What did Laura mean last night when she said, "I haven't slept with him yet." Yet! What does "yet" mean anyway? It means you're gonna do it, doesn't it? Or does it?

Rob:*[To Barry]*Just come on. What would it mean to you, that sentence: I haven't seen [B]Evil Dead[/B] II yet?

Barry: Well, to me it would mean that you're a liar. You've seen it twice. Once with Laura -oops- and once with me and Dick, remember? We had that conversation about the guy making Beretta shotgun ammo off-screen in the 14th century.

Rob: Right, all right. But let's just say that I hadn't seen it and I said to you, "I haven't seen Evil Dead II yet", what would you think?

Barry: I'd think that you're a cinematic idiot and I'd feel sorry for you.

Rob: All right. But from that one sentence, would you think that I was going to see it?

Barry: I'm sorry, Rob. I'm struggling here. You're asking me what would I think if you told me you hadn't seen a film that you have already seen. What am I supposed to say?

Rob: Just listen to me. If I said to you-

Barry: "I haven't seen Evil Dead II yet", yes.

Rob: Would you get the impression that I really wanted to see it?

Barry: Oh, uh, well you couldn't have been desperate to see it, otherwise you'd have already gone.

Rob: Right, I'm not gonna see that movie.

Barry:[pause] But the word "yet". Yeah, you know what? I'd get the impression that you wanted to see it otherwise you'd have said you didn't wanna go.

Rob: But in your opinion, would I definitely go?

Barry: How the fuck am I supposed to know?! Probably!

    Rob: Why?

Barry: Because it's a brilliant film. It's so funny, and violent, and the soundtrack kicks fucking ass. I never thought I'd say this, but can I go work now?

  • i watched a Serbian Film the other day.......not a very good and i feel a little bit dead inside and had to have a shower after...(shivers)

No you are wrong, you are unable to see the world from my point of view.

  • pretty glad about that actually. far too barren for my liking, seriously- there are ways of appreciating things, through different lenses, oh, fuck it. carry on as you were.

  • can you 2 please, get a room ans leave this thread to speak about movies.
    you look like a couple
