  • awful weather = cinema - going to see In a World later

  • If you enjoyed the books so much why did you go and watch the movie?

Naive hope because I didn't see the trailer. Oh yeah...ZOMBIES!

  • If you enjoyed the books so much why did you go and watch the movie?

Still intrigued why you thought it was good? I love Zombie films, but haven't seen it because the trailer looked shit, and everyone I know who has seen it says it's shit. Unless you are trolling, in which case well played.

  • Elysium = Shit on toast. Dreadful film.

  • Watched Disconnect last night, liked it. Some of it was like watching a car crash happen. Seeing it and knowing that you can do nothing about it!

It's not 'shit' shit. It's zombie-by-numbers popcorn fodder that never progresses beyond the sum of its parts but I've seen much, much worse. There were some decent large-scale special effects and a few panic-inducing escape sequences. If you like zombie films you'll get on ok with it but it doesn't elevate the genre to giddy new heights or anything like that.

  • Papillon is iplayer, classic stuff

So is the excellent Ipcress File starring Michael Caine. Worth the price of admission for the 60s London backdrop alone.

I like certain zombie movies, like the original Dawn of the Dead. But I think
for me the attraction was always the end of the world scenario and only
few people left on earth. So Dawn of the Dead has a similar attraction
as The Quiet Earth to me.

I did primarily like World War Z for the sheer intensity in the mass scenes,
the way the bodies move like brainless drones. Here the uncanny valley
effect of CGI works in favor of making them look undead. I didn't need
a lot of bloody gore, something in the motion itself I found horrifying.

Then there was a certain cold clinical feel to the characters that reminded
me of classic 70s cinema. The beginning of the WHO facility segment
reminded me a bit of Coma.

The movie avoided a lot of overused setups, like a "cross section of society"
get trapped somewhere and has to fight together to survive, with annoying
    fights between each other etc.
Or the grumpy muscular outsider who saves everybody in the end.

The military guys in Korea were genuinely helpful.

The little boy didn't become an annoying sidekick. The family scenes were kept to a minimum.

I liked how a lot of characters turned out to have a different role than what
you might expect. The family, the boy, the scientist, the female soldier, the pilot etc.

Didn't care much for the lab scenes in the end or the cure solution. But
that's usually pointless in most movies like this.

  • Who needs zombie movies when you can just go to forum drinks?

  • In a World. Enjoyed it, snappy and funny dialogue

  • World war Z is good. Yes it's not got the detail of a few hundred pages of book, that doesn't make it shit.

It's not the lack of detail, its that it near enough has nothing to do with the book. If you make a move based on a book, you'd expect SOME elements to be present no?

The zombies weren't the main aspect of it. It was the general planetary reaction to it. The reoccurring idea that as a conscious human, you could potentially go extinct, and can never ever be safe anymore! The idea that fuck trying to find a solution, I just want to live! becomes far more paramount. It was completely missed in the movie and was just replaced but an unnecessary need to jump across the planet to find one.

The fear of zombies isn't so much as facing hordes of them, its more to do with never being able to switch off and be carefree. You are always the prey.

Like tibbly said, it's not "shit" shit, it just shouldn't have been based on something that garnered attention for completely different reasons.

  • I thought that Brad Pitt played the part of shambling, wooden zombie very well...

  • Fast & Furious 6 - terrible.

  • Really? Amazing...

  • watched 'the worlds end' yesterday, not bad, fairly standard pegg/frost fayre. went in not knowing the intended plot so wondered where the first 45 minutes were meant to be going but then it kind of gets turned on its head and fun but ultimately one-dimensional film.

some nice nods to the rest of the 'trilogy' and a few running gags in there and a couple of decent one liners (some much more forced than others)

in all an ok way to while away a cold wet sunday afternoon

  • I love that film ...."He's driving some sorta souped up rig!"

  • That dude looks exactly like Sam McCloud.

  • offshore just now and plenty of film watching

The Worlds End - 6/10 - the zombie girl from the back garden scene in Shaun of the Dead turns up, wearing the same confused grimace!

Taking of Pelham 123 - 4/10 - the original is a brilliant thriller, this had all the tension of an episode of the One Show

The Bourne Legacy - 7/10 - a couple of really good set pieces - Rachel Weisz is surprisingly good

Looper - 4/10 - trash - started quite well, had hopes of a dystopian future Clockwork Orange vibe - but then it turned into child actor speaks impossibly profound lines beyond their years

  • Just watched Bug by William Friedkin. Never seen it before. Holy shit! That escalated quickly! Liked it.

  • Taking of Pelham 123 - 4/10 - the original is a brilliant thriller, this had all the tension of an episode of the One Show

The original is a great film, if anyone has a copy of the book to lend me? Thank you please.

  • I've got the book somewhere, also excellent

Let me In - 6/10 - who'd have thought it (?!) but not as good as the 'riginal Let the right one in - almost a scene for scene re-make too - question - why? Answer: So 'murican audiences don't have to suffer those pesky 'reading bits.........' ???
