The Director was Duncan Jones who was known in an earlier life as Zowie Bowie.

I must say, I HATED the rum diary. Thought it was biggest load of tosh i had seen this year.
Seemed more like a vanity project for Depp. I wanted to love it as I am a fan of Hunter S Thomson but i just couldnt.

Depp's a bigger fan - they were mates.
I guess it was just a free wank for Johnny from Hollywood.

over the years I have slowly grown to hate Depp, I don't know why I didn't mind the rum diary

I don't hate him in the slightest, but I have grown to realise that he's based EVERY single character he's played on meeting Sir Keef.

I watched Sleeping Beauty last night. Direction, lighting etc was fantastic but I felt that some of it was obtuse for no other reason than to be a bit edgy. It didn't really work for me.
Emily Browning is stunningly pretty though.

Absolutely. He even had to set up his own production company, Infinitum Nihil, due to the majors backing down.
I thought the casting was great – just a weak script, and it just didn't translate from the book at all well.
There's several stories in The Great Shark Hunt that I think would have worked much better on screen.
There was talk at one time of Depp turning J.P Donleavy's classic The Ginger Man – one of Hunter's favourite books – into a film. not sure if it ever got off the ground though.

Been watching this:

Amazing, a really interesting film, all twelve parts are worth watching.
Los Angeles Plays Itself
'Weaving all manner of footage into a fascinating dissection of LA as the world’s reatest living film lot, this illuminating piece of cinema-urbanism examines the city as background and character through a narrated collage of over 200 clips. One of cinema’s most intelligent and entertaining essays, it charts Hollywood’s ‘war against modern architecture,’ alongside an examination of the starring roles certain buildings have played across multiple movies. From Blade Runner to Laurel and Hardy; a keen look at the truths and fictions a life in the movies has woven into LA’s urban fabric. Essential viewing.' -

Watched Immortals last night, there were parts in it that were that dark that I could hardly see anything.
You expect this from a pirate but not a dvd. And it was utter pish too!
Complete waste of nearly 2 hours! -

Watched quite a few movies over the weekend.
The Artist - Fantastic, now I get what everyone was talking about.
The Muppets - if you are childhood fan of the Muppets then you have to see this. I think the younguns are not going to get this. I'm sure they will like it, but I can't see them running out and getting Kermit toys and t-shirts. But us 'oldies' (read as 30-somethings) will love it!
A Dangerous Method - Very good! I didn't realise what/who the film was about before hand. Well acted all round even Keira did a good job, the russian accent was maybe a little overdone, but worked. Fassbender is really showing his range. Moretnson was good, but it really was Fassbender's film. Though Cassell did steal all his scenes playing Otto Gross.
Watching 'A Dangerous Method' spurred me to unwrap the 'Eastern Promises' dvd I picked up over a year ago in a 4-for-£20 deal in HMV, but never got around to watching. Another great film, had not realised it was filmed in London. Recognised many of the locations, plus Naomi Watts pulls off an amazing English/London accent.

50/50 is VERY good.
Crying shame that there's going to be a remake of "Total Recall". Proof that Hollywood can't leave things well alone.
To be fair, it was a pretty poor version of an excellent book, even though it did have Arnie
Oh, and Moon is possibly one of the best sci-fi movies of the last 10 years....

But the author hasn't written anything of note, let alone something that might be made into a film.
PKD hasn't written anything of Note??? Blasphemy!!!!
The galactic pot healer
Blade runner,
the world jones made,
flow my tears the policeman said,
Mary and the giant (his non-sci-fi stuff is excellent)
annd about 50 other books -including a stack that have been made into reasonably good sci fi movies (if you exclude that sketchy one with robocop in) -

The book wasn't called Bladerunner - but 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. You can find a book called Bladerunner which is based on the screenplay though.

I didn't know there's an adaption of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, I reckon I should give this running of the blade a try.

Well I'll let you know if the film is 3 stars and outdoes the matrix sequels

never seen so i can't comment, seems to have had a very limited realise. No one i know has seen it
The screenplay was written by the director IIRC. Hardly any of the dialogue is Thompson's, but it's great all the same.
I watched Moon (2009) last night. Naturalistic acting, creepy psychologically, based on a solid concept and filmed in the UK - I had to double check it wasn't a Danny Boyle film.
