  • are you still looking for Sarah Connor Crispy?

    "Wolfie's fine honey"

  • Wolfies just fine,
    where are you?

  • There's **slow **and there's... lacking something. As I said I was distracted by a wildly **uncomfortable **seat so am more than keen to try again, I also found lots of huge positives - the performances of the leads, the dialogue, the photography, **the **humour **and the **tension. But I couldn't help but feel it **lost itself a little **half way through.

I *really* enjoyed this parody! Though I have not seen the film so cannot comment.

  • Just catching up with this thread again.

Near Dark was seriously underrated, one of Bigelow's best movies for sure. Speaking of Bigelow I really liked Strangedays. it got some really mixed reviews when it came out, but I loved it. Not seen it in a while so I'll be watching the DVD again some time this week.

Watched 'The Fighter' last week, pretty damn good film all round. Bale stole the show for sure, though I'm not convinced it worthy of an oscar, but then I haven't seen all the other nominated movies. An interesting thing I noted in the credits was that Darren Aronofsky was the executive producer.

Seen the posts about 'True Grit', which have not put me off at all, going to see that this week. Also will probably see 'Paul', I love the other Pegg and Frost movies so I'm hoping I won't be disappointed.

  • Cracking opener ^

  • and ^^^ yeah I'm keen to see Paul, I must say the footage of the alien I've seen so far doesn't look that appealing, just looks a little cheap but I'm a fan of Big Talk films so will definitely check it out.

  • really liked strangedays too. mostly because it featured this track by a vastly underrated band.

YouTube - Walk In Freedom by Satchel

  • *paging oliver schick. noticed last night (whilst watching rushmore) that the original alien in on film 4 this week, preceded by a mini doc/interview with ridley scott. think it was friday.

  • the Pegg/Frost boat has well and truly sailed - Paul looks effing awful......no Edgar Wright, no likey

  • @edgarwright‎ Breaking my Tweetfast to wish @SimonPegg a very happy birthday & tell all of you in UK/Ireland to go see 'Paul'!
    .

  • Saw True Grit on Friday and thought it was excellent. Paced about right and very thoughtful, plus some cracking one-liners delivered by Bridges. Similar sort of western to The Outlaw Josey Wales, and the best Coen brothers film since The Man Who Wasn't There.

  • the Pegg/Frost boat has well and truly sailed

like any number of comedians who were very funny in low-budget productions they should never be given any kind of big budget for their newer projects as their output always gets worse the more the money goes up. the budgets should probably get smaller if anything. pay them more for doing it by all means but keep the movie-making itself on a shoestring.

  • pure comic genius i have to see this,
    YouTube - Four Lions Trailer

hoping not to offend my muslim brothers

  • @HatBeard - I don't think you can call 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz' low budget productions. $4m and $8m is not exactly a shoestring, but I get your point. Since Paul is estimated to cost $50m (I have a hard time believing that figure, but then looking at the cast it could easily be the case.). I don't think trying to just restrict the budget as a means to get good work ever works. You just need producers that are able to control the finances better and make the right choices.

Not having Wright there gives them a chance to find out if they can be good together without their usual writer.

  • true they're not 'low budget' as such but in movie terms that's peanuts and I'd say that hot fuzz was at most only half as funny as SotD for twice the cost which kind of reinforces my point.

I just wish that the movie industry would realise that throwing money at a project does not make it good.

  • True true - Hot Fuzz was approx half as funny as Shaun

  • How do you quantify funny? It was still a good movie. I loved the recreation of scenes from Bad Boys 2 and Point Break, plus all the other movie references.

  • er...didn't make me laugh as much?

  • Four Lions is great. Alternative title: Is lame

  • How do you quantify funny?

er...didn't make me laugh as much?

    Ya cannae argue with that.

Biutiful. Watched on Saturday. Totally absorbing. Bardem was simply brilliant. Great sound, editing aswell as some stunning cinematography.

@ The Renoir cinema - some oil needs applying to the seat, back left of screen 2. I'm v.glad I wasn't sat that close.
Oh and just what is it with "real" cinemas allowing people in up to 30 minutes after the film has started to look for the last 2 seats in a darkened room.....??

  • Paul does look a bit weak, despite it being quite a novel premise, but I thoroughly enjoyed Hot Fuzz. Mind you, I watched it on a plane to Australia, so anything that kept my mind off an imminent inferno was bound to have me drooling and giggling.

  • I also enjoyed the Bafta's last night - a perfect tonic while recovering from food poisoning. Jonathan Ross is a naturally funny man and good host, like him or not, and the Brits showed the Yanks a thing or two, as ever, as to how class cannot be taught.

Nice try, but I don't watch TV. ;)

  • Watched To have or Have Not at the bfi last night - Amazing 'What are you trying to do? Guess her wait?'
