  • They fucking re-dubbed Boba Fetts voice?!!!! Is nothing fucking sacred?

Anyway, didn't know about this - and wanna watch

    YouTube - Separado! Trailer

    Now watching Soul Boy

Soul Boy taught me a bit about Casino, must admit, liked it
Is Boba Fetts voice sacred to anyone other than sci fi nerds of 70s generation?,
just like jabbas digital remake was a sacrilige too?
    Empire was brillinat today btw
    read this,

if I may, brilliantly argued, as one would expect.intellectual appreciation of the films within the art form.
what it lacks is anything about the clarity of what they bring onto the screen, in perfectionist, defined cine-colour immersion, what marks the difference- the qualities of immersion in the period or milieu where they are set .

  • also i want to see sylvain chomet's latest 'The Illusionist' now that my kids can go to the cinema alone.. i can see other films on the big screen again, might even take my missus.. oo-er

    YouTube - The Illusionist.mp4

just watched this, i loved it. go see it if you get the chance!

  • Soul Boy was bobbins. Missed opportunity

  • I went on a bit of an Aronofsky download spree last night. Watched π and really liked it. I've heard The Fountain isn't too good though...

The Fountain if maybe not as good as π or Requien for a Dream, is still a good film, it has a handwriting that lots of blockbuster form Hollywood lack
    well worthy to watch IMHO

Well I finally got round to watching 'The Fountain' last night. Despite me not being the biggest Hugh Jackman fan, I thought it was brilliant. I absolutely loved the Classical/Post-Rock Soundtrack/Score:
YouTube - The Fountain ( death is the road to awe )

    'The Wrestler' next.

  • Saw True Grit at Rich Mix yesterday.

    HERE BE SPOILERS

Slow. To be honest. My seat was also really uncomfortable which was very distracting (it had the cushion removed for some reason so it was just like sitting on hard, warped wood for 2 hours with very little space for my abnormally long legs).

But it was good. I was just expecting it to be more an out and out actioner for some reason - more like the kind of pulp fiction of the book.

Great performance from the Steinfeld, the other parts also good. Good score, lovely dialogue, nicely shot by Deakin.

Bridges - good, Damon - good (though slightly weird relationship between him and Mattie that never really gets expanded upon) Brolin - odd.. it seemed very much a cameo. I.e. only at the very end of the film do we see him and then he has to share a screen with a far more charismatic bad-guy. We're led to believe he's kind of a loser - below even the crazy guy who keeps impersonating animals.

Great moments of tension done in fine Coen form - particularly the stabbing/shooting in the cabin.

Lots of very funny moments - bear suit doctor/kicking the kids.

But not 'great' I don't think. Unless I missed something which given my fidgeting for most of the film is quite possible.

I will stress again just how fantastic I thought Hailee Steinfeld was. It seems crazy that performing the opening monologue and the closing one, as well as being in just about every scene - the film was told from her perspective - it seems absurd that the nomination she received was for Best 'Supporting' Actress. Who the fuck was she supporting?

  • Now I'm watching Con Air. Like a boss.

    "Hummingbird..."

  • If you get a chance watch 'the fountain' in 1080p its amazing

  • "Why couldn't you put the bunny back in the box?"

  • The Fountain is a film I've always been meaning to see. On this reminder, I'll buy the DVD at the earliest opportunity. Cheers.

  • True Grit - sooooo disappointing - took ages to get anywhere - ridiculously verbose dialogue - utterly pointless court scene including plenty of "Objection........sustained" nonsense (really?!) - couldn't even just let the endless wide open vistas envelope me.......er......there were none.

Jeff Bridges' Rooster Cogburn just mumbled his way through it all, which was charming for 5 minutes, and totally frustrating after that.

    Gash. True Shit.

  • Coen brothers backlash started yesterday then.....
    will see it soon.

tell me EB, what was bad about soul boy,?
you never went Wigan (unles it was in your mothers womb) so come on, why the reaction to what seemed fairly lighthearted fayre.

  • Formulaic 'coming of age' story with a vague Northern Soul themed musical backdrop. I would have preferred something darker, edgier....less practicing dance steps in the bedroom, more about trying to capture what it was about the music that did it for so many people?

It seemed like it was rushed into being to cash in on the current interest in Soul lite pop music (Duffy....Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings etc)

Hopefully Elaine Constantine's upcoming film will do the subject matter justice

  • Been on a bit of an Aronofsky spree for the past few weeks, watched all of them quite a few times, still only seen The Fountain once but expecting it to be delivered tomorrow so will soon change that. I can't decide whether Black Swan is better than Requiem For A Dream, but they're both definitely in my top 5 films.

  • At the naysayers against the utter brilliance of *True Grit*, I can only say that I completely respect your difference of view, though disagree vehemently. I actually rank it above Unforgiven, but not up to Shane. And Shane is slow also, but if that is not considered with the highest regard, then my friends you are certainly of the instant gratification required groupset......and the best of British to you.

  • I really, really, really want to see this - Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

  • Just watched the Tourist, what a top notch piece of shit.

There's **slow **and there's... lacking something. As I said I was distracted by a wildly **uncomfortable **seat so am more than keen to try again, I also found lots of huge positives - the performances of the leads, the dialogue, the photography, **the **humour **and the **tension. But I couldn't help but feel it **lost itself a little **half way through.

  • I really, really, really want to see this - Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

    Yeah I'm keen for that.

I've been surprisingly motivated in the past fortnight with regards to getting stuff done including knocking films off of my 'to watch' list so shall do my best on this soon rather than later.

  • Just watched the Tourist, what a top notch piece of shit.

    Correct.

  • Also found time for Love And Other Drugs yesterday evening for some reason. Not to typecast Anne Hathaway, maybe she sees it as being her chance to be a SRS ACTR, but fuck me does she love getting her kit off on camera.
Interesting and often absent take on pharma culture and also spoke pretty openly about dealing with parkinsons but for the most part a by the number rom-com.

Though I was confused as to how Pfizer let them get away with it. I wouldn't say it put them in a good light yet everywhere you looked there were Pfizer logos and the lead was a drug rep for Pfizer. Yet for the most part they were only spoken about in a negative light, they were made fun of as being a bunch of money grabbing snakes, detrimental to the health of a patient for the revenue they bring in.

  • All press is good press

  • Especially if you're Sarah Connor

  • are you still looking for Sarah Connor Crispy?

  • Lacking something is correct. It just didn't have enough action, or retribution, both essential for a Western to my mind

  • John Wayne on prozac?
