Wes Anderson? Watched my first of his the other week, Grand Budapest Hotel. Was underwhelming.

I liked Grand Budapest.. looked amazing, gentle, quirky humour - nice film and not one you'd forget. Moonrise Kingdom - enjoyed it more the first time I saw it, second time it annoyed me. The others, not so much.
Daughter loves a babycino - orders them herself.

Tigers are not afraid - Orphans in Mexico try to survive while being hunted by a crime gang.
One of them has 3 wishes. I make it sound grimmer than it is, it's pretty good worth finding.

Nothing is as grim as Sin Nombre.

Ichi the Killer

Ichi was awesome. Different kinda grim. Which cut did you see? Apparently most are cut to hell and you miss the good bits.

A Serbian film / The bothersome man / city of life and death / vengeance trilogy are nicely grim too.
Not seen sin nombre tx for suggestion

I Feel Pretty - Not as funny as you want, pretty obvious plot development, would not recommend.

Men behind the sun is on my "can't handle it I think" list. Japanese pow torture camp movie, eek!
Based on unit 731 which was real so not a happy story.

We watched Being There and Network. 70s nostalgia that both stand up today. Simpleton in the White House and reality TV

I'm mad as hell.

Is it like Martyrs and Grave of the Fireflies with added depression?
-
• #14369
Martyrs, blegh, couldn't get into it.
Grave of the Fireflies is very good and very sad...Unit 731, em, think good old classic Hong Kong style violence cranked up to 100. I think. I doubt it'll put me in a good mood cos it's based on real life instead of "fun" exploitation cinema.
On that note, Angst (1983) is "an experience" according to the boyfriend.

"A Cure for Wellness"
Young somewhat unpleasant man gets asked to return a colleague from a sanitarium in the Alps. Clearly not all is well up there...
Bit too long in places, and some bits are derivatives but worth a watch anyway if you don't mind the length as some scenes / mood / acting and care for graphics and sound design are good

Army of Shadows makes for some lovely moody classic cinema

👍
It's great. Saw it recently too. Christopher Walken is always worth it.
Watch him dance with muppets in Communion too
