I straight out hated The Revenant, so much CGI of supposedly natural scenery, overuse of lens flare, Oscar chasing dross in my opinion.
Leo seemed to be crawling towards the best actor award I imagine someone was waggling at him just out of shot.

Exactly, just like in most of his films. Don't get him. Poor mans Oliver Reed.

I didn't hate it, I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was like a more arty Gladiator meets Castaway meets Dual Survival (because unlike THanks's character, Leo's character knows how to survive).
After watching it, I don't feel Leo deserves an Oscar for it.

I can understand him normally, not struggled before, my other half got really pissed off in The Drop, but the sound was poor in the cinema last night.

I can't get into his characters. Just seems like I'm watching 'Tom Hardy' every time.

It's the usual problem--actors are supposed to play roles that are not them, depending on whether they're able to play anyone other than themselves. However, films sell if the public like the actor. Hence, actors usually become successful if they play themselves (and most of those around today have zero acting ability, anyway, having been picked by agents for just that kind of popular appeal). Tom Hardy is probably like that, too, but I haven't seen any films with him, so actually have no idea.

Yeah, I guess. He does seem to be in a lot of films recently. Kind of like Fassbender (who I think is a great actor) was a couple of years ago. It's not like he's a bad actor, I just don't think he's exceptionally great. Not much range to him.

Deadpool - good fun, kinda Kick-Ass-esque in its excessive violence and constant swearing, solid popcorn fodder. if you like that sort of nonsense then you'll love it.

Saw Deadpool on Saturday, it's silly but I really enjoyed it. Much better Marvel film than Ant Man (not hard).

I haven't been a fan of Tarantino's movies since the Kill Bill fillums. Well, really, after Pulp Fiction it was all meh for me. But I watched The Hateful Eight the other night and whilst I wasn't blown away I thought it a pretty decent film.
Like, you know, not totally shit Mr. Tarantino. -

I've tried to explain this perfection to the missus, but she just doesn't get it.
She gets so many other films (including Withnail, which must be tough considering English isn't her first language), but this one still baffles her as to why it's held in such high regard.

Watched Alien the 2003 directors cut last night - couldn't tell you what the additional scenes were, but it was brilliant still and stunning on BluRay
The Revenant was marred by my inability to understand what Tom Hardy was saying about 70% of the time.
