On that note, the town where my parents live has a cinema joined with a pub. You can order finger food/plonk while watching a movie. Press a little button and the staff sneaks in to take your order.

Not sure about Hardware.

Hardware sounds like great fun, going on my LoveFilm list.
If you're ever in Belfast visit the Queen's Film Theatre. Chain up your bike cos it's near the University (hai bike thieves) and then go for a Boojum's/proper dinner in Botanic area nearby. Good times.

Saw the Imitation Game last night. Really pretty enjoyable and a great story but nothing particularly earth shattering. Definitely very entertaining though and more than worth a watch.
Benedict Cumberwumber is fantastic and rather surprisingly Keira Knightley has a solid performance.

Melancholia 1&2 EDIT >>> nymphomaniac 1&2
IMHO 1 is better, more humour and a playful intertwine between the two main characters and a scene that struck a chord with me.
In 2 this is lacking, and it has more of a tendency to attempt to shock for shocking's sake. The acting is impeccable throughout and it's still a cut above most films, if you only want to invest 2 hours pick 1.
If you want to watch a "depression" cycle movie from Van Trier Melancholia (with an excellent ending) and Antichrist (again excellent more on the horror front) are imho very good.Melancholia is perhaps a bit of an"artistic" way to explore the topic of depression however the acting is very convincing and heartfelt (cough cliche) and the main depressed character near the end finds strength the others don't seem to be able to find, despite her condition.

Can anyone suggest some good horror/psychological thrillers that don't have jump-scare related bullshit? Stuff like Enemy with Gyllenhaal.

I highly rate Possession, it's a bit more towards the surreal end.
Dead Ringers (Cronenberg), Altered States, Jacob's Ladder, Byzantium, are all movies that incorporate horror/the weird with psychological thriller aspects.(Jacob's ladder has been ripped off mightily by later USA films)

It's a classic. Especially funny after 'a few ales'.

I watched Homesman this weekend. Tommy Lee Jones directed and Luc Besson produced.
Not a good film to take a date and giggle over popcorn but an unpredictable story, not melodramatic or sentimental but fun, tender and a bit mad. The pace is a bit monotonous – it's about a journey over a desert so go figure.
I've never been starving in late the 19th century mid-west but I imagine this film does a pretty good job of recreating that world. The characters and their actions are totally shaped by their harsh landscape. It reminds me of Grapes of Wrath – never a bad thing.

I thought the same. I hoped to learn a bit more about Turing – it fell a bit flat. Box-office hit with just enough colour in Cumberbatch's performance to get it award nominated.
Keira Knightley. She's everywhere at the moment and doing good stuff I reckon. Begin Again was good.

The Fountain - Aronosvsky
Critics are generally more negative than the audience. I liked it for the interplay between the couple, and it has a World Tree but symbolism is perhaps a bit overcooked/obvious at times as critics noted.

Yeah it got panned on release, but I liked it as well (although an Aronofsky fan since Pi) despite not liking the casting at all.

Watched Close Encounters for the millionth time tonight, plan to watch it another million times before I pop my clogs... Love it...
Oh, and I loved Fury too... Shia is pretty good in it, colour me surprised...

^up there somewhere. I saw Hardware when it came out, seemed awesome at the time, I'd be interested to see how it stood the test of time. I probably have a CD of the soundtrack somewhere at my parents house.
I seem to remember they got into a bit of trouble over the script, because the plot was a blatantly ripped off short story from 2000AD. Still, it had Lemmy in it as a cab driver, and the bloke from Fields of the Nephilim doing his mad eyes thing.
I've recently seen the Turing film, which was better than I was expecting. I got the feeling that the plot had been simplified for us mere mortals. I'd love to know more about what life at Bletchley Park was really like. We had an old teacher at my school who'd been there during the war. He never talked about it, and we only found out when he died and the headmaster made a speech about him.
I've just tried watching Lone Survivor. I got to the bit where they all roll down the big cliff and then turned it off for being stupid. I think I can guess the rest.
Jesus, I've just written a fucking chapter. I guess it's because I haven't left the house all weekend and i'm a bit stir crazy.
Sounds like movie night 'round at my place...
